I actually think charging you if they had to travel is reasonable. My only dispute would be if the travel distance was deliberatly increased by assigning agents from far afield.

If you phoned a non local company then what did you expect?

IF you are told about it and agree to it.

That is a local company in my area.

I would not have minded paying for travel if I had been told about it beforehand.

If they are local why exactly did they need this level of travel?

What do you think a call-out charge is for. They should not be charging her mileage on top.

Because it is normal for this part of the country to travel those types of distances.
Aberdeen is a city and the next nearest city is Inverness up north and the one down south is Dundee both of which are many miles apart. There are no cities in between only small towns/villages.

So it wasnt a local company then. A local company is one very near by; not one the best part of a 100 miles away which Inverness and Dundee are from Aberdeen.

If you call a company 100 Miles away from your home then I am afraid that I would expect them to charge for this priviledge.

    Hello,

I don't know which part of the country you are in but if you live down in London for example you are cheek by jowl on top of a lot of businesses and cities nearby. You will have many many stairlift engineers to choose from all undercutting each other because in one city there may be many to choose from. Up here in Scotland towns and cities are a bit further apart.

No I live in scotland and am very familiar with the geography of the country.

What you did would be like myself in Edinburgh calling a Glasgow tradesman then expecting not to pay for his time except when onsite, in fact its less of a distancee.

Its unfortunate for you but if the necessary tradesmen do not trade nearby you will have to pay for their time to travel to you.

You haven't said exactly where it is but it appears clear to me the tradesmen you called wasnt local and hence you should have expected to pay increased fees for their attendence.

You can't agree to something if you aren't aware of it.

I would send them a cheque for the call out charge + 1 hour labour, send it with a letter explaining the situation. That you dispute the 3 hour travel time and that you want them to provide some proof that you agreed to the extra charge.

The OP was well aware they chose to call a tradesman who lived a signficant distance away from them. It would I suggest be common sense to expect to pay extra for this.

I wouldnt expect to pay travel time for a local tradesman no; but If I call a tradesman who is 50-100 Miles away I certainly would be expecting to pay for such travel unless I had been advised it was a free quote or estimate or so on.

The point is that a call out fee is to cover the travel costs. If they are going to charge a call out fee plus mileage, they need to make the customer aware.

It is pointless debating with you as you will argue that black is white as long as it causes an argument.

Judas, why not have a think why you have had so many accounts PPR'd?
