How about ringing and asking, unfortunately if it comes to court action its your word vs theirs so it will be hard to prove anything.

Perhaps they have a log of who your spoke to on the day?

Did they leave you a copy of the agreement you signed? If so does it mention a minimum 4 hour charge?

I have to say that a call out charge and a minimum of 4 hours seems rather excessive, it is usually one or the other.

I would question it. Ask to speak to the accounts dept and say that you are querying the invoice as you feel that £260.50 is way to much for a 20 min visit and mention that at no time were you told that there was a 4hr minimum charge, keep a note of the person you are speking to and the date and time.

I haven't got a problem with the call out charge or the hourly rate, but nobody told me that they would include travelling time in the hourly rate.
Have they said that is what the extra is for or are you just assuming?

Including travelling time in the hourly rate is scandelous and unjust! That would mean he'd make a fortune just from choosing jobs from all over the country.

Unless they told you in advance you had to pay the travelling time, and told you where he'd be travelling from, then I'd tell them to shove it (politely!) and just send them a cheque for the call out charge and the 1 hour of labour.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

ouch. I'm going to assume this isn't stannah? I had cause to call Stannah not long back after the battery failed on Mum's stair lift and they couldn't have been more helpful!

So what have they now said after you called? Are they waiving the extra £174?

If not, try calling consumer direct 08454 04 05 06.

No the stairlift is Acorn but the company that I got is a stairlift company which is not part of Acorn.

Ok, so who were the company who came out? Acorn or the other company? And what are their names? I'd be interested to see if they have any T&C's on their website!

Also, how long have you had the stairlift installed?

The woman in the office is going to check the GPS in the van, she put the phone down on me even though I was very polite to her you could tell that she did not sound very happy that I had phoned.

Stuff the GPS - you were not told that you would have to pay for travelling time.

Call consumer direct and see what they advise.

Personally I'd be tempted to pay the charge I thought appropriate and let them chase me for the rest.

Also - call Acorn and tell them.

I don't see how the gps will help, they charged you for 4hrs @ £58 as well as a callout fee. Personaly I would call consumer direct, as stated previously, if they dont waive the extra 3 hrs charge (3 x £58.00 = £174.00)

This is completely outrageous, don't be intimidated by that woman on the other end of the phone.

    Complain loudly.

you don't state your age, but if appropriate contact age concern and they will help you.
