NTL free TV with phone

Options
NTL have just launched there free tv with phone line.

It looks like a poor deal marketing ploy, what a con. The channels you get are exactly the same as freeview but for a couple of channels.

People will then want to upgrade and will then have to pay the full price

I am shocked that NTL are trying to do this and thought they would have at least offered the select pack / base pack.

I think its very poor, compared to other deals on the market

Am I being harsh what do other think.

"Available to new and existing customers. There will not be any charge for the TV package as long as you continue to pay for your phone line. £25 standard phone installation charge applies to new customers and existing customers who are adding a phone line. You must take all services included in this package for at least 12 months. If you change your TV service, standard prices apply. As part of the digital TV service we will provide you with a set-top box, which will be reclaimed if you cease to be a digital TV customer for any reason. Existing customers who already have a phone line may receive this TV pack without a subscription charge upon paying a £25 standard TV installation charge. "

I can't get my head round this! On the Telewest website in the terms and conditions of the Free TV package, the first line reads "the free TV package is not available to existing phone line customers", but the last section about the £25 TV installation charge seems to contradict this.

Note that they have dropped Hallmark and Gold (and QVC) from the free TV channels.

    Which says

Looks like NOT has been entered in error.

and the sister company site NTL says its available to existing customers.

If you are on NTL broadband, do like me.. Scrap NTL TV for freeview (FREE, same quality, for me anyway), and get scrap your NTL phone line for a VoIP phone (again, FREE, amazing value for money. :) ).. That way the only cost you have is your Broadband.. A 1mb line would work with VoIP, so £17.99 for BB and Free phonecalls to 40 countries around the world, sounds good to me. :)

The thing is if you threaten to cancel and go through to retentions you can get 10mb broadband telephone line and talk unlimited 24 for about £20-£25

Possibly.. I think they were glad to see me leave, as I was on the Basic TV pack and since starting using VoIP over a year ago I have hardly got a phone bill. :-) So they didnt make much money from me, they also didnt try to offer me anything.. Perhaps if I was looking for a deal one would be there to be had, but I was determined to close shop and move to VoIP/Freeview. I dont regret doing this though, VoIP is better than ever (incoming/outgoing calls, all free) and the quality on freeview is great, and works nicely with my twin tuner 2 PVR, something NTL doesnt offer. :-)
