DLA Appeal - backdated payments ?

Just a quick question please -
If a DLA decision is disagreed with and you have asked to go straight to appeal - (if its successful at any stage from the notice of intention to appeal to the appeal tribunal itself) - is the award backdated to the date of the original claim?
I am kind of thinking it does because some people have talked about the DLA DM's changing their minds as soon as they get the GL24 arrive on their desks - and then receiving a large payment ? but cannot work out if I have got the right end of the stick !!
Many thanks for your help so far and moral support I have received so far x

As above, yes, it's backdated. However an appeal can take up to 6 months (sometimes but not always quicker) to assess and quite often they will do a reconsideration (if not already requested) prior to appeal, which can sadly and on a couple of weeks.0

After looking at all the advice on here and other sites, its going straight to appeal - GL24 sent and hopefully they will start looking at it and start the process. The original claim was made in March - so if by some miracle we do get it - i presume a nice backpayment will come. I have read loads of messages saying its taken months and months, and others have had a new decision a few weeks after the appeal request went in........just have to keep waiting i guess.
(anyone out there had the DLA change their mind once the GL24 went in and not had to go to appeal ??)0 -

Yes. Well, they turned me down, got CAB involved who phoned DWP on my behalf and filled in the GL24 in for me. Sent that off, got a letter saying I'm not entitled blah blah blah and got a letter a few days later saying the'd canged their minds and I got 6 months (ish) backpay.Sealed pot challenge #232. Thats brilliant - nice to know it does happen then !!!
Funny how you had two letters in a few days contradicting each other tho - ?? but i guess that if we get another no, we can still hope that we get one like yours a few days later !
Can you remember how long this happened after you did the GL24 ?
Thanks x0 -
It was about 4 months or so. I have to admit I found it odd that I got a letter saying no and another saying yes a few days later.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Sh1305, i have followed many of your posts on here, for somebody who says they cant work, keep running away and hear voices in their head you are incredibly switched on when it comes to benefits and are claiming absolutely everyhing out there, no voices telling you not to apply for things then eh and as you spend all day on here, you could quite easily to a wordprocessing job somewhere instead of claiming...its the likes of you who George Osbourne was referring to at budget time...hes going to make sure ONLY those that need help the most will get and i for one cant wait to see these new medicals up and running..and by the way your earlier post on another thread about needing benefits to phone for takeaways because you sometimes cant be bothered to get out of bed and cook i thought was an insult to genuine claimants0
