kingspan or celotex

Hi, now I see what you're doing.......celotex comes as an independant insulation board as well as a thermal laminate (plasterboard stuck to the insulation). A vcl would not be required if using a thermal laminate board as the vcl is integral. However, you will need to make sure that all joints are sealed to prevent air leakage.
Hope this helps.

Rather than Kingspan etc have you thought about using Actis ? http://www.insulation-actis.com/produits.php?p=3&l=3&rub=40&gamme=0
I used it when I renovated my loft, piece of cake to use and the U values when I used it out did Kingspan simply rolls over the rafters and staple it on. I remember the building inspector saw it and said naah cant use that, so I showed him the tech spec....soon changed his mind ! he'd never seen let alone heard of it but he was well impressed as was I.You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -

Thanks. My building inspector is being VERY difficult. Whilst he is correct in what he says he likes to be awkward. He's very arrogant and I have a wider vocabulary that I'd prefer to use to describe him...anyway, I'd prefer to stick to what is in the specs to keep him happy. I know you state your BI was ok with it, I just daren't take the risk. Thanks all the same though - it is appreciated!
Nobody has still mentioned if they would favour Kingspan or Celotex over one or the other!

Kingspan, Celotex, XtraTherm etc are all essentially the same.
If it has silver foil both sides and a yellowish PIR/PUR foam in the middle then the only difference in real terms for a given thickness is the price
Actis and similar Tri-Iso foil quilts are unproven and not accepted by many councils. Despite being around for 10 or so years, the manufacturers have yet to prove that they work as claimed0 -
Hi, nice sketch by the way!
As I've said before, there will be an integral vcl in the thermal laminate board. The 50mm air space should be ventilated in accordance with BS5220 - ventilation top and bottom. With a gap of at least 25mm continuous slot (or equivalent) at the bottom, and a 5mm continuous slot (or equivalent) at the ridge. Proprietary roof void tile/slate vents can be used instead of a slot, but you will need to make sure that you work out the correct number needed.
I hope this helps.

Also give this a look - re: price

Let me just say I have no connection with this company - I just know about them as I live quite close by.0 -

Cheers - picture paints a 1000 words and all that!As I've said before, there will be an integral vcl in the thermal laminate board.

Right - this is nice to hear/ I know I need ridge tiles installing, but having not seen one yet I was wondering how they would allow air circulation without rain getting in. In my specs it does state how many I need - three on the top, and either side of the pitch I think. No idea how to install these though.I hope this helps.
It does - in particular the sizes at the top and bottom slots. If I get this correclty in essence a > shape will be created (wide at the bottom thinner at the top) will this help to improve airflow?>>>> i've no preference between kingspan/celotex either, other than cost and availability.
Graham
Ok - well that being the case I'm sure it will work out cheaper using Celotex! I'll have to go and look (again....that many things to price up I keep getting confuzzled. I'm also needing to look for velux windows - anyone know any good suppliers (apology for the thread hijack on that)).
Cheers Graham!!"The future needs a big kiss"0
