Hi,
I have heard from reletivies that people on DLA who are living with parents home when they get married are entitled to and can apply for there own home paid by the council/government as they cannot work. Anyone know of this system?
Thanks.

DLA has nothing to do with work. Many people have both.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Are you asking about applying for social housing which prioritises the allocation of it to groups, including the disabled?
Or are you asking whether disabled people are gifted properties by the tax payer of if there are mortgages that are available that include DLA as a source of income to repay it?0 -

Wow, I have been missing something? I am 61 and my wife is 66. We have just lost our home as the keys have been handed back to the bank. We are currently living with my daughter, partner and our two grandchildren in a 2 bed house. I get DLA, High Rate care/High Mobility for life and my wife now gets High Rate Attendance Allowance.
I would really to love to know if we can have a house please!
The Council say that we are intentionally homeless as we gave up our home, and can't help us.
So if there is anything going - we will be first in the queue!0 -
Is this the free house thread now?0

Sorry, I know you are going through hard times but your post did make me giggle.
I had visions of everyone rushing to the Council for their free house.
Good luck with your situation though.0 -
From a review of historic posts on this topic, it looks like some mortgage schemes used to accept DLA (for those with indefinate, lifetime, award) as A source of income but the links to the brokers or information sites from these posts which are quite old are broken.
Shelter may be a good start. This is the scottish site, I couldn't find anything on the England site.

so what happens to those disabled people who cannot work but get married and have children and rely on benefits get a home or rent? Can they or does the government oppose this?0

Your question does not make sense. No one is given a free house. Anyone can apply for social (rented) housing, and will be assessed according to set criteria. A disabled person may be able to get a mortgage, but this will not be eligible for SMI if they are already claiming means tested benefits.
Do you have a specific question relating to your own situation?Gone ... or have I?0 -
It is possible to buy a share of a property and have benefits counted as income for the mortgage part.
I know as my friend has recently done this - once approved, she found a property herself (one on open market) and a housing association bought the other share and charge rent for that.
It's a scheme for people who have no/little earned income but receive disability benefits. The rent is covered by housing benefit if you are eligible for that.
She said only some lenders participate in it but the bank she has her mortgage with were excellent.0
