Looks like im not alone with this current problem regards BT Broadband and it either dropping the connection (frequently!!) or not connecting at all. Tried and tried again to get problem resolved through BT helpline(sic)
Anyway promised that this will be sorted and that I will be contacted within 24 hours to tell me that all is well :rotfl:well im still waiting....................
Amazingly though ive been getting onto my Broadband so thought i would post this before it drops again. So i was wondering if anyone ever gets a reply from BT.
Funny how they never forget to send the bill though.

If thine ISP offends thee MAC out.
I've never quite worked out why there are so many posts complaining about poor CS from some ISP or other. I've always operated a one strike and you're out policy as it is so easy to move. Mind you I've had 120 different ISPs over the last 10 years

Yes, I had a good service from BT - well fairly. They called me back same day as I was complaining about my broadband speed. They checked it and said there was nothing more they could do due to our location and I checked with a local IT bod and he said thery are right. We live rurally and so can't go to anyone else. Good luck!0

What on earth gives you that idea? There are dozens of alternatives to BT, although you may not have any LLU options on your exchange. But you can still get a better and cheaper service than BT.
Check your options on https://www.samknows.com, then exchange search. No free lunch, and no free laptop

It seems there must be many that have that same idea. How else could BT have the highest customer base and also offer probably the worst service at a high price. What on earth gives you that idea?

But why should you chop and change ISP's when you are paying for a service that they are not providing. Surely its better to have your problem resolved without just chucking the ISP out.kwikbreaks wrote: »If thine ISP offends thee MAC out.

But in areas which are not unbundled you're still taking BT - but simply with another name. The providers effectively re-selling BT's product might offer a cheaper headline rate (although the savings do seem to be negligible) but BT will always discount their BB deals substantially to retain its customer base. A re-seller won't be able to offer a faster speed. Equally, if you have problems with a BT re-seller you're merely extending the chain of command when having to report problems - which will ultimately land on the desk of BT anyway. There have also been issues with intermediaries charging to resolve problems. I'm not a huge fan of BT but they won't charge to sort out BB problems so long as you don't flag this up as an issue with your landline. At least, this has been my own experience. Of course, as ever, I'm happy to be proved wrong.0 -
BT Wholesale do not deal with the public they ony deal with the ISP you are signed up with. Even if that is BT the ISP they are not allowed to give them any preference over other ISPs so I'm afraid that your argument is simply wrong.
The speeds depend on how much capacity the ISP has bought from BTw in relation to the customer base and how much use that customer base makes of the available bandwidth. Many ISPs that resell the BTw product give their customers better download speeds and customer service than BT the ISP - in fact you have to look quite hard to find any that don't.0 -
The OP says he has tried many times to get the issue resolved with no success. IMO it is well past the time when they should be dumped in favour of a different ISP where the problem may well not happen (unless it is a line problem) and get sorted out if it does. But why should you chop and change ISP's when you are paying for a service that they are not providing. Surely its better to have your problem resolved without just chucking the ISP out.0 -

Well that's interesting. I'd certainly be interested to know that BT re-sellers can offer a faster service than the root provider. My own BT service on a non-unbundled line is certainly in keeping with local expectations and knocks socks off my previous re-seller (Orange). I wasn't so much as putting forward an argument as recounting my own experience. Good stuff! Thanks.0
