O2 - Transferring a number between accounts

I have a contract with O2 which my wife has always used. As this is due to run out in three weeks she has taken out a new contract with O2 in her own name. I have emailed O2 to close my account and got my PAC code, with a view to transferring the number to my wifes new account. I have emailed O2 twice now and both times I have been told it is impossible to do this due to different first names on the accounts - Has anyone done this before? and if so how?

Try transferring your number to O2 pay as you go first, then transfer it back to your wife's pay monthly, that would probably work better.

In my experience, Orange and O2, treat their pay as you go and pay monthly as "different networks" to allow you to transfer the numbers from one to the other.

Or move it to another networks payg and then back, both ways work.

To answer my own question! Just phoned O2, was on hold for 20 minutes initially but as soon as I explained to the operator what I wanted to do she did it straight away, no hassle, transfer will be completed on Monday :j

But surely if you do this you will lose any credit on the phone so what is the point unless you want to keep the number which you could do by just doing nothing.
