If the house is modern, there will be a steel lintel behind this area, so the fitter has used short screws and plugs into plaster.(2" wood venetians cane be very heavy, and add the weight needed to pull then up...... say no more), If you have extra slats in the bottom of the blind,(ie: unused when the blind is down), it is possible to set the brackets almost at the height of the cornice, which has the advantage of less blind over the window when they in the UP position. If no extra slats, you may have to fix the hole with polyfiller etc; and drill into the lintel. self tapping screws will be needed or of you can find them, self drilling screws. Hope this helps

hi I am not sure of this is what cornice meant but you can take the additional slats off the blind thats what we did so they fall the exact right length..loses weight that way too.

Do you really mean "New home?" NHBRC warranty?
Doesn't look new but I'm not sure.
What, pray tell, has an NHBC Warranty got to do with somone incompetantly fixing a blind to the wall?

    Cheers

Probably nothing in this case, but if the house was bought from a developer the buyer would have some leverage if the blinds were in situ.
You may have noticed my question mark, or maybe not.
This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !
  • I'll try and take the extra slats off the one downstairs and hopefully that will be ok. I've taken the blinds off the wall completely upstairs because it was getting worse so now there's a hole in the wall I'll need to fill and get everything fixed again, but might just put up some lighter curtains instead.

It doesn't appear as though they did the best job in the world when putting these up.
