Walls cracking around the blinds, help!

Hi there, have just recently moved into a new home (less than a month) and just now have noticed the area around where a set of blinds are joined to a wall have started to crack. Not sure what my best course of action is but something obviously needs to get fixed. Can anyone advise?

Inadequate / inappropriate fixings used. Who put it up?

    Cheers

  • No idea unfortunately, the blinds were in when we moved in, but no visible issues at the time.

Ahh - OK was just thinking if you had paid someone to do it then he could come back and fix at his expense.

What is the substrate here? Is it plaster over brick or block?

    Cheers

  • I wish I knew offhand, I'll have to check my paperwork to be sure.

  • The innards are a bit sandy coloured if that helps, can't really see much more than the picture shows. Sorry I'm not being particularly helpful.

I'd be taking down the blind and resiting it lower down (plenty of room to drop it an inch or so) with properly sized fixings and screws after having removed the loose and patching it.

Thanks for your help, there are similar blinds downstairs so I wonder if I should do the same to pre-empt any similar problem. Is there a webpage or something that gives detailed instructions on what I should do (materials needed, etc)?

Hi we have venetians up like you. In most of the house they are recessed situated in the window as opposed to on top but i have not long redone dd's room and in our house we have wooden batons fixed above the windows for blinds and curtains..could you do this after fixing? They are painted the same colour as the walls so not noticable. I can post pics if you need. x
