I went on uswitch.com a week or so ago and it showed me i would be better off switching from Npower to British Gas for both my Electric and Gas by £61.00 annually went ahead and started the switching. Got the Direct Debits through yesterday which I filled in and sent back, and the contract... saying they would start supplying my services from 6th October.. all well......no! got up this morning and found out British gas have just put up their prices and are the highest in the country....PANIC!!!! what do i do? Just been on Uswitch.com again and my savings would be £276.00 a year if i went from British Gas to Scottish power manweb, and £67.02 if i go from NPower.

Help please

As posted switch as many times as you want. I'm on my 6th move in a year. You will pay more for final bills for moves in Winter months and less in Summer due to the averaging used for DDs but you will save. Keep track of swap readings on a spreadsheet so you can check that final readings from old supplier and first one from your new one match.

It would depend on what you signed up to, but the only tariffs I'm aware of that had any sort of tie-ins were some of the old price-fixing ones, where there was a penalty for switching before the end of the term.

Personally, I was with BG for only a matter of days before I switched again.

Same happened to me. I am able to cancel my move to British Gas as my contract arrived less than 7 working days ago. Cancellation can be done by telephone but the CS desk is not open until on Sundays. These sites like USwitch are very good at not giving visitors the complete picture. All of my prices quoted for British Gas were based on 1st July 2006 charges.

I rang this morning and cancelled my contract. The lady on the phone said there had not been a price rise today..... so i said yes there has, then she said, we announced it 2 weeks ago, it may take effect from today....duh..... surely its the same thing, their prices have gone up! anyway she tried to make me change my mind by telling me that it wouldnt affect me as I was on the old rate.... and they are gonna cut their electricity prices by 13.8% still went ahead and cancelled.... hope ive done the right thing.... looking at uswitch its showing up as scottishpower manweb is cheapest for me and british gas is no where to be seen, unlike just over a week ago when they were in the top 3

Just received this e-mail regarding GG gas prices.

Beat The British Gas Price Rise!
    By Cliff D'Arcy, Baron Bill-basher
Today, 4 September 2006, is a day for action!

In case you haven't heard the bad news, British Gas increased its energy prices today -- yet again. BG's gas prices are up by 12.4% and electricity rates are up by 9.4%. These rises come on top of a 22% increase in March and a 14.2% hike a year ago. Ouch!

The typical household now spends over £1,000 a year on gas and electricity, compared to under £560 in 2003, so our energy bills have almost doubled in just three years. Happily, there are serious savings to be had from switching energy suppliers. If you've never switched before, you could save up to £300; even if you have switched in the past, you could knock 15% off your current bills. (Don't worry -- switching doesn't involve any rewiring or plumbing work.)

To make life easy, we've teamed up with the leading provider of energy price-comparison services. Simply visit our Utilities centre, key in a few details about your energy costs, plus your postcode, and our state-of-the-art comparison calculator will search over seven thousand different tariffs to find you the cheapest gas and electricity. Eureka!

Don't worry if you don't have an up-to-date bill to hand -- just estimate your energy spending and then check your bills later.

So, don't burn your money by paying too much for your energy: join the dash from British Gas today
