I moved my broadband from O2 to SKY for the total package but my download speed is a third of the speed I was getting on the same line two weeks ago. does anyone know if I can I cancel the contract without any penaltys?

As far as I know all broadband speeds are advertised as 'upto xxx' with the figure advertised being the maximum speed that is possible in certain ideal circumstances (ie right next to the local exchange). There is no guarantee of the speed you'll actually receive as it depends on many things.
I assume that your service is usable, ie you can surf and download, albeit slower than your previous provider?, but that is the risk you take when you jump ship - sometimes its not greener on the other side.
Unless your speed is exceptionally slow, any agreement from Sky to let you walk away will probably be down to goodwill rather than obligation.
Have you contacted them and asked them to test your line etc and given them the opportunity to correct any issues?. If not, why not? surely that should be your FIRST course of action?.
Also are you on a Sky LLU connection or a BT based one - sky offer both"Dont expect anybody else to support you, maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse, but you never know when each one, might run out" - Mary Schmich0 -
I hav contacted SKY and am still waiting for them to get back to me, I just wanted to have any info ready for when they get back to me.
Thanks for you reply0 -

First off, they wont contact you.Reason is this:
First you need to call up their Tier 1 Tech support,go thru some basic troubleshooting.
That will alow them to raise a fault ticket on Chordiant,Sky's SMS system.
You should be given a ticket number,Then you'll be put thru to their ole Tier2,now known as TSG or something, who are based in Scotland or Belfast (where I worked)
They'll carry out some tests on your line, adjust the profile & speed if need be.
If you have'nt done this, then you're wasting your time.
Was it that f***** useless shower of c*** Phillapines callcenter you got thru to?
One point, the are people in the Belfast center who are from all over the world.0 -
When Sky start providing your broadband they run a process called DLM which optimises the speed of your connection.
This takes 10 days to run.
During that time you must leave the router switched on.
If at the end of the period you are not happy then ring CS and they will do a manual change if appropriate. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Sky's old Tier 2 or TSG when they merged with Tier 3 do that.CS dont have access to the Easynet equipment (LAMA).TSG do.0
