Should i refund?

Hi All,

On Thursday evening i sold a game on ebay but because of a hectic work schedule this week I havent been able to post the item. Now the buyer has sent me an email asking for a refund on the game as it was meant for a Birthday present. I was not informed about this Birthday at all.

Should i just send the refund or do you think the buyer is being a bit hasty? The item was going to be posted on Monday and i Have even offered special delivery if that would make it on time for the Birthday.

What would you do?

Many thanks

It depends, when is the birthday? and how much did you sell the game for? Is it worth spending about £6 sending it SD or would you be better off just relisting it and sending it normal post?
  • I dont know when the birthday is, havent had their reply yet, and the game only sold for £20. Only thing is i just transfered all my money out of paypal and paypal wont refund unless the money is in the account.

I would just refund him, do you not have a cc set up with the account?

It's not worth spending £6 on delivery if the item just sold for £20 but it's your call.
  • i think its less hassle to refund so i will just refund and relist, besides will give me more time on the postage front. lol.
  • Don't refund him, you have 7 days to get the item to him. As far as I am aware that is ebay's accepted rules.
  • Yeah I agree with cafenervosa. If the item only sold on Thursday evening then there is no reason why the buyer should have it already. You have 7 days in which to post the item. Posting it on Monday is fine and well within eBay rules/guidelines. You've even offered to send it special delivery which is a very nice gesture.

Whilst I agree it is unreasonable of the buyer to demand delivery in such a short time it is also unrealistic to expect anything other than a neg if you don't refund as the buyer will almost certainly find fault with the product and demand a refund after you have incurred postal costs, just refund and put it down to a bad experience and protect your integrity as a seller.

check there feedback, might be that they bid on a couple of items at the same time and was worried that they were going to get two, or the other item is cheaper than yours so they are trying it on. either way if they didnt mention it beforehand about the birthday I'm going to assume that there lying.

I wouldn't even send it special now. if they neg you you neg them, dont leave feedback until they do. I would send recorded at the very least they may well try a crafty and say the postal service has lost it.

    good luck.

I would tell them that if they wanted it that quick that they should have said. You could always tell them that you are willing to give a refund minus fees.

To be honest I would tell them it was already in the post - post it tomorrow morning - and there is nothing that can be done about it. If this is the case make sure you take pictures of the condition of the game before sending (date and time stamped!)

    Good Luck

  • Tell the buyer if they want a refund you will be taking off the cost of the listing fees and the final value fees that ebay charged you for this item.
