and if the bathroom is a straight replacement id give that a go.

    made me think of this:
Wall papering is p*$$ easy, any idiot can do it.

I papered my living room recently, looks fab. I'm sure those blisters will shrink in time. I tried to mallet flat a bump until I realised it was the light switch.

Replacing light switches is p*$$ easy, any idiot can do it.

I pulled some plaster off when fixing the light switch and had to repair that.

Plastering is p*$$ easy, any idiot can do it.

When I plastered the repair I dropped a load on the carpet.

Carpet laying is p*$$ easy, any idiot can do it.

When I re-layed the carpet I damaged all the skirtings.

Fixing skirtings is p*$$ easy, any idiot can do it.

When re-fitting the skirtings I damaged the wallpaper.

Wall papering is p*$$ easy, any idiot can do it.........

I had my bathroom suite replaced a couple of weeks ago, as the shower tray had cracked and leaked down into the kitchen below, and the wc was barely working at all. I got several quotes, one from a plumber that was recommended by a friend who's having a lot of work done, two from an online recommendation site, and one from a local magazine. The latter and the personal recommendation were the lowest quotes, but the personal recommendation would not dispose of the old suite. When I investigated, my local council doesn't take them away either, so I opted for the plumber from the local magazine as he quoted for disposal. He quoted £800 for labour, estimating five days' work, and £825 for the suite and accessories (bath, wc, basin and shower cubicle and tray but not the electric shower as that still works!). There were problems with everything, mainly because the old system was old enough to be pre-metric and required adaptors to fit the new system, as well as some weird previous installation 'solutions'. This meant he had to return for a few hours for the next four days until it was finished to his satisfaction. He charged me no extra for any of this, and I'm very pleased with the end result as well as his professionalism and unobtrusive manner.

Other quotes were £2000 just for labour. And one wouldn't quote for anything, just told me to buy my own suite. The plumber I used discussed my requirements and budget, and then purchased what I wanted. I'd done some research by then and estimated that the basic four items would be about £700, excluding any connections, etc.

My advice: get a professional and several quotes. I'm in Berkshire, by the way, that may affect costs.
