Then do a business card drop round your local area. See if anyone calls. Go to your local shopping centre and drop some in business' as well.

http://www.elance.com and similar sites are worth a shot, also it CAN be worth hanging around in web design chatrooms like Yahoo etc. where people sometimes pop in for a job doing (be careful though, get paid...make sure what you do can be undone if not by retaining the login details). If you aren't very confident, try to stay quiet in those places apart from politeness and what you are 100% sure of..they will tear you to bits if you !!!!!!!!.

There are tons of sites that have people asking for tenders for work, but India etc are a !!!!!! to beat at this.

Facebook, Twitter etc, sigs in OTHER forums..helping people in other forums and chat rooms all have a chance.

You can even make and sell templates and skins for Joomla or other CMS if that's something you feel good doing.

Way back in the day I used to simply email site owners telling them the reasons their site didn't work well, offer to fix it up. IF yo're nice about it and not greedy that's not a bad way sometimes.
