Many who had not had the opportunities before, but did have the go and were prepared to work hard did pretty well, despite coming from humble beginnings.

    Thatcher was hated.

Even the IRA tried to bomb her lol

I was a toddler during that time so I'm neither bothered too much.

So say the "Independent office for budget responsibility" yet another self styled "Think tank" full of there own self importance, ime no fan of former BOE policy member Blanchflower, but he said of this organisation ,
"It seems unlikely that this new body will ever tell [Osborne] not to slash, and it is unclear why three men and their dog can do better than the hundreds of economists at the Bank and the Treasury."

Anyone with a clue can recognize the absurdity of the very concept of an "independent" fiscal watchdog.

There is no consensus on what constitutes "responsible" fiscal policy, and as it involves taxation and public spending, the subject is inherently political. The conclusions reached by such a body will merely be a function of those chosen to run it.

We will see. All the tea reading I do suggests, in my opinion, that we will have another recession fairly soon.

With house prices stagnating. Pressure will be taken away from wage inflation resulting in a more competitive private sector. Unlike a large proprtion of Europe the UK has a very flexible adaptable workforce. The UK is also very entreprenerial something which often gets overlooked.

We need some entrepreneurial spirit right now, in fact buckets of it.

For many it could be harsh times ahead. That said, it's down to the individual to carve out a living for themselves.

Change will create opportunity for some.

Yep, times are a changing. I feel sorry for all those that will lose their job, but basically the country has been living beyond it's means and now comes the belt tightening session..... I'd rather have the pain of this than more dodgy short term schemes to keep things 'as they were'...

This could well be a long term dodgy scheme that will !!!! you over until the day you die.

My recollection may be a bit hazy but were they not motivated for different reasons than the effect of monetarist policies and deindustrialisation?

As a toddler then you won't remember the 2 plain clothes army guys that strayed into republican Belfast and ended up being publicly executed.....

Or the Guildford bombings...... Or the asttack on the RHA in Hyde Park ........

When you are down and out , don't be surprised to see people walk past you. What goes around comes around.
