Which Shredder Please?

Good morning folks,
I require a new shredder as the one I have has packed in and will not shred our ties and socks anymore!! Does anyone have any thoughts on a good one please. There are so many out there and I would be happy to pay a little more for one which does the job.
We shred home letters, A4 stuff about 3-5 pieces at a time at best and we like the idea of a cross-shredder. It is for home and maybe abit of home office work if you get my drift?
Any thoughts would be welcome.

The more expensive the stronger the motor/gearbox/knifes and will last longer. Sub £30 not much good.0

I've got a Fellows Shredder (think it's PS-77C off hand)
Was £100 from Argos, probably cheaper now
Cuts cards, cd's and up to 12 pieces of A4 at a time. It's a cross cut shredder too so useful if your worried about secure stuffOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them
Working towards DFD
HSBC Credit Card - £2700 / £7500
AA Loans - (cleared £9700)0 -
EDIT : This is mine, screw that looks like Argos is trying to get a profit from it
£120 now, it's a good piece of kit, but so is any of the fellowes range if your budget isn't very high

I know some of the simpler shredders do cross cut but haven't used em. The fellowes ones have the safe sense technologyOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

I got a cheap (sub £20) cross shredder from Tesco around 7 years ago. I only shred 1 pice of paper at a time (or thin cardboard), but it's performed well & is still going strong0

I wouldn't spend £100 for a shredder. If it's for home use and light home office use a cheaper one will do. You said that you shred 4-5 sheets at the same time. With a shredder ~ £100 you could shred 12 sheets at the same time, which might be overkill for you. Only if you have to shred a lot of sheets continuously then the cheap one will not do as it will overheat after a couple of minutes.
I bought mine from Lidl for £19.99 a few years ago and it still works. They sell it every now and then with their specials. Though it was £24.99 the last few times they had it, but if IIRC the last time it was back to £19.99.
I had to open it twice when my flatmate(s) put to many sheets into it and they got stuck, but it still works.
One more tip: Don't forget to oil it from time to time. Just spray some W40 on a sheet and shred it...0 -
The better ones are oil/maintenance free now.0

Argos have the Fellowes Shredmate 4 Sheet Cross Cut Desktop Shredderon sale for £15.00 at the moment0

I have a Fellowes P-35C - it's better than the cheaper shredders by a bit, but still a touch underpowered for 5 sheets at a time.
I certainly wouldn't spend £120 for a home shredder. I could buy 4 of mine for that money, and I seriously doubt it will last 4 times longer.0 -

That's what I'm thinking too. If you buy from Argos and want to be on the safe side, then buy the extended warranty for £5.99 and you can still buy three of those shredders for the price of £100.0 -
Thanks for the excellent help averyone,
I like the fellowes Range they look like they will do the job. Some shred CDs?-not sure I would need that!!0
