Stick your work circumstances in there and see what it comes up with. :)

Thankyou, thankyou, it's fab to know there are objective people out there giving up their Saturday night to save me from certain debt!

Life insurance is tied to mortgage and will only pay out if I toss myself under a bus. It ain't that bad yet!

I'm also loathe to dump the income protection because if I was to get hurt at work (entirely possible in my job) at the moment we'd be unable to pay the mortgage. My plan with it is to ditch it as soon as we've accumulated an emergency fund, but right now that's looking like a goal for 2008.

    You're all wonderful, thank you!

According to my calculations you have £83-11 per week to spend on anything, including food, birthdays, pets, going out etc.
I got all excited there, thinking that I could have nearly the £900 by the time my 0% period is up - then I realised I'd have to slaughter my pets and eat them!

Thanks for your comments david, I'd never thought of working it out on a weekly basis before. By the way, we have't got gas and water is included with council tax here.

Contract. I am hoping I can get this switched to a cheaper plan (I use it for work calls) but they seem to have only one adviser answering their phones all weekend ...! It does have some time left to run. Have edited my OP to make it clearer.

If you need the phone for work, why don't your employers supply one? Or are you self-employed?

Basically the tax gets to be so complicated that we just have our own phones and it's less hassle.
  • Agree with all the cutbacks suggested except life insurance as this will be part of mortgage deal and "get rid of your pets" charming! Get hubby onto benefits ASAP for JSA as I think this can't be backdated.
  • Eels, don't get rid of your income protection plan. If it is a half-decent plan it will pay out in the event of accident or injury for you. It would be false economy to cancel it now.

Make savings in every other area you can. I noticed about £50 -60 per month that you could make that would ease your immediate situation.

I hope things improve for you both soon hun.

    hiya

Do you need to save £10 for MOT's as Ii have just paid £35 to have my done.
I thing it may also be worthwhile stopping the £20 clothing for the time being.
Can you other half claim JSA? and if so would he be entitled to a rebate with CT?

we enjoy it, much better than going out spending money :rotfl:
  • Eels, agree with all the great suggestions thus far, although personally, I'd rather starve than give up or compromise my pets - get the feeling you're the same.
Makes sense to have a word at work & see if you can get some provision for use of mobile and petrol, if you haven't already.
As others have suggested look at the Benefits potential for OH.
Also, have you fully exploited all the other p/time earnings potential - Quidco & other cash-back sites; Surveys; Mystery Shopping; p/time Auditing, Merchandising & Promotional work, Boots Sales; E-Bay; Amazon Sales etc. etc. - there are threads on all of them here. May all seem small in isloation, but it's amazing how quickly it starts to mount up & really helps out. Also, you'll save the money spent on clothes & pressies by buying from Boot Sales and Charity Shops, & from some of the test purchases from MS'ing.
There are some great ideas on here for making Xmas pressies too.
Sure you'll get it sorted - lots of luck x
