Give yourself a bit more time and it all becomes much less relevant, seriously. :)

    Agreed.

But you've to get to the bottom side of York from the top side ring road, in order to reach the A1079.

As the op is coming from Jockland, it's easier to stay on the A1, and then continue onto the M62, rather than cut off along the A59 and endure the slug that is the York ring road.

From the A1/A59 junction is about 20 minutes to Ferrybridge. You'll spend that long sat around York, and waste more fuel.

No you won't. I've done A1 to the A1079 junction more times than you've had hot dinners, sometimes three times a day. The anti-clockwise route only ends up blocked if there's an accident. I've done Hull to places up north via A19,A59-A1 and M62-A1. NO COMMERCIAL DRIVER WOULD TAKE THE M62-A1 ROUTE FROM HULL DOCKS GOING NORTH UNLESS IT WAS AN ABNORMAL LOAD SO THAT ROUTE IS FORCED ON YOU.

You may already know, but the check in for the Zebrugge ferry has been combined with the Europoort ferry check in. The last check in for Zebrugge ferry is being advised by P & O as 5.00pm as people for Rotterdam are staring to be in the queue and being checked in, so the 5.30 deadline might be missed.

Also if you are returning to Hull the disembarkation has become slow as vehicles have to pass very slowly through what appears to be a large X ray machine.

A further point is that there are regular random breath tests before you leave the docks, presumably to catch those who have been drinking the night before.

With this route planner website you can specify when you want to leave and it'll give you the best/fastest route:

My advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.

No it won't. From many hundreds of thousands of miles experience, it will not give you the fastest or best route. It'll give one it thinks is which usually bears no resemblence to reality on the ground.
