Hi All

Travelling from Scotland to Hull in a couple of days to catch the Zebrugge ferry.

Will be coming down the A1. Should I stick to A1 - M62 or cut across to Hull via York??

Is the traffic likely to be busy around 3-4pm A1/M62 junction area?

Local tips greatly received..............

Personally I'd stick with the motorways. More lanes and higher speed limits.

York central traffic can be quite unpredictable, as can the undualled outer ring road round the north. You could come west along the A64, down the A19 to the A63 to Hull but I'm not sure that would be any quicker as the A19 is single carriageway.

Don't know anything about likely congestion on the A1/M62 junction though.

You can go A1 to the A64 then come down the A1079 it is quicker if you don't hit traffic on A1079.

A1 to the M62 is the long way round but faster averege speed! you pays ya money and takes ya chance lol

I'd forgotten the A1079! Quite a few built-up residential areas to go through in Hull to get to the port if you approach from the west on the A1079, if I recall correctly?

You could always go along the A1079 from York and turn south to go down through South Cave but if you get stuck behind a tractor then it's slow.

As Locknut says, it's horses for courses!

A1, A59, A1237 ANTI-CLOCKWISE onto A64 then A1079 all the way into Hull and follow the signs for the docks.

If you go M62 way, its an extra 20 miles for no benefit and you get tied up in teatime traffic on Castle Street in Hull.

Not really. Mostly free flowing outer ring road up to Leads Rd junction and then its still reasonably well flowing down Ings Rd. Marfleet lane gets a bit more sticky but everyone is usually going the other way.

    A1/M62 everytime.

Yes sure it's longer but the York ring road is one to avoid no matter which way your going.

The A1/M62 is now a restructured junction and is of the freeflowing type, (Like spaghetti junction) so there should be no hold ups.

York ring road? the top side is a nightmare but the south side on the A64 is very rarly a problem.

    Agreed.

But you've to get to the bottom side of York from the top side ring road, in order to reach the A1079.

As the op is coming from Jockland, it's easier to stay on the A1, and then continue onto the M62, rather than cut off along the A59 and endure the slug that is the York ring road.

From the A1/A59 junction is about 20 minutes to Ferrybridge. You'll spend that long sat around York, and waste more fuel.
