end of contract sky

we have just finished our contract with Sky for Sky+, currently paying full whack for all channels, but atm we aint watching all of them, what option is there for HD channels.

Sky currently offers us... the global offer for a free HD Box + £60 install then £10 pcm extra for the HD channels but thats too much atm, if we can we want to stay with Sky but are willing to look at Freesat?

what would you think would be best, retentions or freesat

I think you've answered your own question. if you don't watch any of the premium channels, then why pay for them, even at a 'reduced' rate? Either cancel your sub and revert to Freesat from Sky, or if you want PVR facilities as well then buy a Humax Foxsat HD box as a straight swap to your existing Sky+ box. That will give you HD as well as PVR for no ongoing cost.

I'm also trying to reduce my outgoings and I've paid too much to sky in the last 4yrs. I currently have sky tv, phone, calls and broadband with them. However, I want to cancel sky tv cos I dont watch it anymore.

What is the best deal for phone and broadband please?

If you can get cable in your area I'd consider this if you're not wanting to watch a lot of premium TV content.

    It'll cost £18 + 11.99 for the phone line = so basically 3 for £30...

Broadband is exchange specific, so no such thing as a national 'best deal'. Go to samknows.com and do an exchage search. Look for your LLU options, as these will be the best deals.

Just remember that once you've gone to VM, and you've got rid of your BT line, then you are tied into VM's cable service forever until you have a BT line reinstated. And VM's telephony is the most expensive around.

and the OP can sell the sky+ on ebay to pay towards humax :)

  • Thanks for thip about VM; I'll think 2ce about switching to them. I switched from BT to sky line rental almost 2yrs ago I think does thank mean I cant leave sky without getting a new line? Cos I remember sky customer service trying to say something like it will cost me 120 quid to leave their line rental....

It won't cost you anything. But you will have to take your line back to BT on a 'return to donor' basis, this will require you to first take 12m line rental with BT. Once that is done you can place your broadband with whichever ISP you wish.
You can't go from one LLU supplier direct to another, only via BT.
