Sure there will be a few more things to add soon enough.

    Interesting ideas so far.

I'm trying to limit the extras as our budget has changed (we're buing a place to live).

    Here's a few things I'd like though:
    Harpist (around £300 I think)
Possibly have a band (fingers crossed, my bridesmaid has just joined a wedding band, so might be able to call in a favour)
Favours - the venue offer homemade chutneys / jams in persnalised labeled jars for £2 each, but multiplied by 140, that's quite a lot!
Possibly a sweetie buffet - not sure how much I;d spend on that though.

That's about it - I'm trying not to get too carried away with the ideas I've seen on here (although some are great) so as to not make the costs mount.

i think what you're suggesting sounds quite expensive- perhaps things are more expensive in england

we married in a hotel i thought was quite expensive. the hotel was a former castle.

i didn't really try and save money, but things that made it cheaper were

not getting married at the weekend. we were married on a friday which was cheaper than sat/ sun. the venue and photographer were cheaper.

our meal was £20 a head and we had a drinks pacakge on top.
we didn't put money behind the bar. we did have champagne at the reception and wine at the tables included

our rings were from a jewellers which gave 10% to nhs workers (which we were)

obviously it depends on what you want, but there's no way i would spend so much on a dress. mine was around £300. i bought shoes. i wore a friends wedding veil- it was my "something borrowed"

    always haggle with the price.

i made the wedding favours with bits off ebay

mother in law friend made the cake (she's a cake maker)

a friend made the invitations- very professional and a little bit different.
we didn't need cars as we were staying at the hotel. the ceremony and meal, evening were all at the same place so we didn't need to organise transport.

the place i married at did say that they had lots of couples from england coming up to get married- cheaper for a beautiful setting

would looking further afield for venues reduce the cost?

Pumpkin, I may be wrong but this hread isnt about saving money as such.

    We are all :money:concious

Yeah, I'm just interested in the extras, rather than the core wedding "essentials".
Thanks for the detailed post though pumpkin - imput is never wasted :)
  • I am wanting as little extras for our wedding

Postbox to go next to the guest book
Activity packs for the children that are coming, to keep them entertained

As we are getting married in a manor house, the grounds are massive. Im thinking of bringing in some games for the kids to put on the lawn, like big noughts & crosses, snacks & ladders, maybe hiring a bouncy castle (although i would want someone there all the time to keep a eye on the kids)

Im wanting a candy bar just need to get prices if it comes out alot il look into doing it myself

Getting disposable cameras on the table for everyone to take piccies so we get a nice selection & also get to see our wedding through our guests eyes.

We are letting off lanterns at the end (again something i need to look into) i wanted fireworks but the venue wont allow them....

We're having one of our favourite bands. We're paying for hotel rooms for them and food, and possibly paying them £300 as well.

We're also having a classical guitarist for our ceremony and portions of wedding breakfast. Thankfully he's a relative who volunteered, so isn't costing us anything.

I'm thinking about a candy buffet, and a DIY photobooth with a couple of polaroid cameras. We want photos of each of our wedding guests, and figured this was the best way to go about it!

We have a large gap in our day, but still haven't decided on any entertainment. My partner hasn't been happy with any suggestions so far!

    At the wedding:
I'm giving our guests Out Of Town bags with little mini sunscreen, perfume, plasters etc and a little present. These shouldn't cost too much as it'll be mostly free samples and things scrounged off people!
I'm thinking about making fans for the ceremony- as cheap as possible because I'll be making them!

    At the reception:
Another one having flip flops for weary feet! £30
I'm making a photo booth area so people can take 'holiday snaps' with props and what not. I'm hoping to only spend about £30 on this. Not sure what to do about the camera for it yet, I suppose disposable ones will be easiest and it won't be too bad if it goes missing.
I'd love a steel band but I'm not sure if we can stretch to it, it's pretty much a toss up between a couple of hours of live music or theme park tickets for our honeymoon in Orlando, think Orlando will win!
