  • Hello Peter-bfast,

I would like to take this opportunity to reply to your comments from Sunday.

Regarding your comment about the meal, Saturdays Bride asked for the meal to be brought forward from the original agreed time, as people were hungry and children were getting restless. To facilitate this Jackie (Our Wedding Co-ordinator) asked all available staff to help her begin service ahead of the catering staff arriving.

The Police were called to the hotel on Saturday night to intervene in a private matter between 2 residents unconnected to the wedding. They left at approximately 10.30pm having resolved the incident without making any arrests. Wedding guests were able to purchase drink until 1.45am.

While we appreciate all feedback, it would be more helpful to us at the Knockagh Lodge if customers contacted us directly with any complaints or concerns. I should point out that Saturdays Bride and Groom were delighted with the way the day went. In fact 2 of their guests have contacted us with regards to booking the Knockagh Lodge for weddings next year.

That might be so but it would help inform others here if these issues are continued to be posted on the forum so as it doesn't get brushed under some dodgy carpet........ ;)
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!
  • I stayed here in June for 3 nights but left after one. My key card wouldn't work on 4 occasions and the lady on reception litterally told me off for having the card in the same pocket as my mobile phone. Enough said....oh and just for the record i took a few snaps from my bedroom

  • This is one of those really frustrating places to stay with the potential to be really great, but which overlooks so many important details that it becomes a really disappointing place to stay.

So what did they get right? Well, the rooms are reasonably new, well decorated and furnished. They're a generous size and at a special rate of £45 for a double (room only) really competitively priced. Almost without exception, the staff were very friendly, polite, concerned to put what they could right.

So why wouldn't I return? At the moment, the place definitely has the air of a building site - whilst a terrace or french doors are nice, they're not a great addition when you're looking out over rubble and rubbish. Whilst the bed and bathroom appeared clean, other parts of the room (the stool under the table, for example) were extremely dusty - perhaps as a result of on-going building work. There was no way to remove the plug from the bathroom sink other than to plunge your hand into a dirty sinkful of water and use your nail to lever it up. The shower took a good five minutes to run warm. There was no alarm clock in the bedroom. A box of tissues by the bed is nice - but only if there's more than 2 tissues in the box. Whilst the views over the countryside towards Belfast Lough are great, being woken on Sunday morning by the loudspeakers announcing the start of some kind of horse-riding event at the stables next door was perhaps more rural than we would have wished for.

We visited the lodge for a family meal and there were plenty of family in the area we could have stayed with. But we booked the lodge because the family doesn't get together that often and we all wanted to meet up, have a meal and enjoy a few drinks without worrying about driving back. So we were particularly disappointed when, after the meal, we wanted to share some wine and have a good catch-up chat and the bar closed earlier then we had been told on booking, and despite the information in the room, we were unable to purchase any further wine or beer, despite being residents. The ability to purchase alcohol after normal bar hours is one of the perks I associate with most hotels, and one of our reasons for staying rather than travelling back to stay with extended family and it was particularly disappointing not to be able to relax in our room and catch up over a bottle of wine. I also think it's symptomatic of a bad establishment when the staff aren't clear on what services are available and aren't empowered to take the necessary action when a situation such as this arises - it really isn't that difficult to unlock a bar, get a bottle of screwtop wine and add it to someone's bill and you should trust your staff enough to enable them to make the decision to do that.

These all seem relatively small complaints, and easily resolvable, but they all irritate and contribute to a sense of dissatisfaction. It also seemed that there was a lack of desire to acknowledge or address these complaints at a management level.

I certainly will not be returning to the Knockagh Lodge

  • was here on saturday for a meal, service - terrible (very slow at being meeted n greeted to our seats and it was roughly 8 - 10mins before being asked for a drink, let alone our order!),,, food - I had steak / chips and my wife had chicken curry (my steak was cooked wrong to my disgust & my wife had felt poorly until yesterday afternoon since eating her meal!!)

terrible experience, service & food. wouldn't recommend it at all!

  • I too have had a bad experience of Knockagh Lodge. Went for dinner one night over the summer, was given the wrong meal, and was told that was what I ordered!!?? I think I know what I ordered! They brought me out a new meal - with a lot of tutting and sighing from the waitress, and also suspiciously quickly, after waiting so long on the first wrong meal. The roast potatoes were inedible - had to be sent back, the carrots were inedible - had to be sent back. I really resented paying for the whole meal, as it was not nice at all - and I am not a fussy eater whatsoever, I will eat most things.

The carpets and floors in the place were filthy. Not impressed and will definately not be back.
