You could well be wildly wrong, then again you could be right It's not something I've heard of or come across so I dunno!

Even if you are right as they're not family (hopefully ) & strictly speaking they are not partners, just boyfriend/girlfriend, then it would be a normal private sale I would have thought??

If all else fails and you can't afford the payments you can always 'work off' the debt. You might want to get that written into the contract.

What interest rate is he charging you, is there a loan arrangement fee, has he mentioned penalty clauses for late payments. Is he front loading the debt. :rotfl:

If you ever get married you might want to think about opening up an account with him so that you can withdraw your housekeeping money at regular intervals, perhaps some online banking on the home computer to avoid going overdrawn with him and incurring bank of husband charges.
