            Hi,
Just a quick reply really, but... how did you find this information out? I wonder if putting a card through her door simply saying you'd like to help... might make her feel very uncomfortable. If she didn't tell you the news herself, will she not start to think that everyone is talking about her behind her back?
I would personally say it would be nicer if you popped round and explained truthfully how you know about her private situation, and then offer your help and support.
Good luck, it is nice that she has people like you who care and really want to help.

Very sad to hear about this ladies circumstances! I think id be inclined to buy a card that says it all for me ? Helen Steiner Rice or something similar. A touching sentiment, without the reality check.
At the bottom you could just write : it would make me very happy to think that I could help you and your family in some way, and Im giving you my telephone number as a friend ?
I think as long as you sound genuine, which obviously you are .... whatever you write will be received with the good will, in which it was sent !!
I think you have an incredibly generous heart to want to help this lady! Well done you!0
