Comet Camera CATASTROPHY

Cheers stiffnuts. Nice to see you around again.
I was aware that local Trading Standards apply different levels of support (do I remember rightly that they have different 'protocols' set out for each area?)
This case seems such a good one under the Sale of Goods Act. It seems worth the OP getting in touch locally. They may even find that their local Trading Standards are very proactive in helping consumers. It seems it would be foolish Of Comet if they were to ignore a letter from TS reminding them of their obligations in this case. This would be a lot easier than going to court as well. Certainly worth a phone call before proceeding with any more contact with Comet. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Yeah spot on. We have a civil advice team that deal with soga issues, however it may get refered on to an officer if there is a complex issue or a possible criminal matter. I have on many occassions sped up the process and got in contact with the business concerned to help out the consumer even though where I am we dont have to. I particular go the short cut route if the consumer is vunrable or elderly, and calling from TS does carry a lot of weight and usually gets the job done, and your right about reminding them of their obligations.
Your also right about many local authorities been proactive some will even help you bring the matter to civil court.
I work in a london borough and we dont do that sort of thing though. We just give basic civil advice and give template letters. Although it does depend on who you talk to as some will help that bit extra.
Def worth talking to local TS.0 -
Ok great advice thanks again I will contact ts tommorrow! :-)0

If you reported the fault within the warranty period, it doesn't matter that it is now out of warranty. I had a problem with a hotpoint tumble dryer, and had 8 engineers visits, only 1 of which was in the warranty period (but that's another story....) As long as it's the same problem, adn not a new one, then they will still have to sort it out under warranty.0

Did you get the tumble from Comet? What was the final outcome, and how did you achieve it?
I ask because I am doing battle with Comet over a faulty (still in 12 month warranty) fridge freezer. We are on engineer visit no. 5, and still no joy. I am at my wits end!0 -
this sort of thing is why i will NEVER EVER buy from comet0

But have you had them go wrong?
I don't think you can tell anything about the customer service of a shop until something goes wrong!
I know loads of people who say, 'XX is a great shop. I've never had any problems'. Those of us who HAVE had problems and are forced to go into lengthy battle with so called 'customer service' have a different tale to tell.
Shops like John Lewis are worth their weight in gold, IMO, and from now on I will buy all the more expensive items (white goods etc) from them.0 -
Hey Guys Quick Update:
Mom spoke to T.S. yest who were v helpful and funnily enouh the advier who she spoke to used to work in comet and the store with which I'm dealing with small world ehh!!
Anyhow he's said that although Comet have rights we have some too
Basicly sad even though not in warranty we have right to replacement as item sent bk first time within warranty period and not fixed!! He also said if do have replacement it doesnt have to be that model if after this 2nd time camera isnt fixed!
He told us before we sign to receive product check it for a good 10 mins to see if faults re-occur
If faults dont recorrur he said when we sign to receive product back for 2nd time write by signature receiving this product on condition that it doesnt reoccur same faults within 28 days.
So with this new info am ready for round 2 with comet and eagerly awaiting a call to say its in store ready to be picked up!
So will let you guys know what happens next and thanks for all your support!0
