Hi all,
I have a meal plan for the next two weeks, for lunches and dinners, last nights dinner doubled over into lunch for today, sausages and baked potatoes with salad from the garden, rolled into left over sausage and salad sandwiches! brilliant!
This eve i dug out an old fish bake from the freezer and ate (well attempted to, it was vile) that will some pasta with balck pepper and oil...
My meal plan for the week looks like i will only need milk, can you actually taste the difference between normal 'fridge' milk and UHT carton milk when you pop it in tea? or on cereals? thats the only time i ever use milk but the bottle always goes off before i finish it.
Since July 1st i have had 4 NSD's, so i am really rather pleased with that! and looking at the cupboards and freezer (and meals batch cooked in dad's spare freezer at the parents) i dont need to do any major shopping, just bits of fruit. Is there nutritional difference in tinned fruit in juice to fresh fruit on things like pineapples?
SSEach day is a new beginning, look at what you have an be grateful for every tiny thing. You don't know when it may be taken away.0 -

The other option is to get a couple of smaller plastic bottle (half the size of your milk bottle?) and split the milk. Put one in the fridge for use now, and the other in the freezer until needed (but allow to defrost fully before use)Cheryl0 -
I went into the supermarket on the way home alst night. I intended getting a pack of chicken and carton of yoghurt, but then remembered that I needed sugar for jam-making, and a few other things on the shopping list (stuck on fridge at home) that were urgent (conditioner for my hair being one important one). And there were lots of bargains on things I would normally use (or a brand similar enough that I was happy to get it - like a different fruit squash drink that was 40% less than my regular with a special offer). So I ended up spending €73 - although that included €20 on 3 nice bottles of wine heaavily reduced. And €13 on chicken (6 pack of breasts and 4 pack of part-boned breasts).
I used 4 chicks last night to make a Chicken jalfrezi from scratch, which was delish and there is a second portion now frozen!! DH will use the other 2 tonight to make a chicken tagine - he did the shopping a few weeks ago and saw a kit which he wants to try (we've never made a tagine before so I am not too unhappy about that - we can do it from scratch again if we like it). I will use 2 of the part-boned to make feta chicken another night (just pop some feta, with thyme leaves, under the skin and roast - delish!!) and freeze the other 2.
I am hoping that I can make a risotto verde tomorrow night, as I am heading to the plot tonight after work, and there shoudl be a handful of peas and broad beans to gather. (And some gooseberries, raspberries, redcurrants and blackcurrants). So I will probably be jam-making tonight (and I may need to find more jars somewhere!!).
But at least, that should be IT for this week. And I am in 2 minds now about going north - I am low on pasta and rice and tinned tomatoes, but I have a lot of other stuff to use up. So I think I might leave it until later in the year to do that, and combine more of the Christmas shopping with the grocery shop.GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897

In reply to the 'stores' question - I try to keep rice, pasta and toms in stock at all times - I just buy a few extra each time and build up. I'm lucky in that I have a cellar and so keep stuff down there. I buy basmati rice from the indian shop in big 10kg sacks and decent brand pasta when I see it in B&MPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I have got the shoulder of pork on for a slow roast, am about to make flapjacks for lunchboxes and a cheescake to use up some left over cream from last nights chicken tikka. I am also going to get ahead and make the lasagne base for thursday's dinner and spag bog to freeze!
I've wiped down the kitchen and got 2 loads of washing on! - hopefully I'll get a bit of time to sit down before I have to get dd from nursery!FebGC
