I got the liquid pectin from Sainsbury's, near the sugar. I added about 1/4 of the bottle to about 4/5 jars of jam.

May I have your apple jam recipe please?

Thanks for that. I want to make jam with the apples from my garden.

I'm thinking of doing cream tea hampers with scones (made in advance and probably frozen until needed), HM jams and a selection of teas. I'd also like to include a tub of clotted cream but not sure how practical that would be.

  • I was a little short on fruit for my blackberry and raspberry jam.. I needed to make 20 jars and I was worried I was a bit short so I added 3 bags of frozen summer fruits from Sainsburys, £2.35 (currently on offer at 3 for £5), and they were lovely.

Really fresh, plump looking fruit. A £5 well spent for a big bowl full of fruit, and I made over my 20 jars!!! :T
A small Thank You can make a BIG difference ;)
  • Help! I did a jam trial run with some of the blackberries we picked and it's set really hard - you can't really spread it on toast!

I tastes really nice but isn't quite right is there anyway to rescue it? I used a jam thermometer to get to the right temp but think I had over reduced the blackberries beforehand :(
Silence is golden...unless you have a toddler. In that case silence is very, very suspicious!

Heat it up again slowly and add more fruit, a little at a time until it is a better consistency . No more pectin or sugar, just fruit. I had the same problem and this thinned mine out.

  • I'm just making Christmas chutney for the first time! Really hope it turns out okay as its my first ever attempt. Anyone else used the recipe from Good food? I'm hoping to give some as gifts and keep a few jars - I LOVE chutney :D
  • also, another tip, if its the other way and the jam won't set. reboil it with 2tbsp (40ml) fresh lemon juice.

Me too - what a coincidence!

I'm using a variation on Nigella's recipe with dried fruit and plums instead of apples though. It's based primarily on what we had/what was on offer.

I'm planning to make cherry jam this week too, once I have enough jars, and then after that chilli jam :D
