Yes. Lovely letter.

They had 109 e-mails asking them to take the project on, so it would be nice if as many people thanked them as possible.

I guess that means I should write. Thanks for the reminder and you are right (that I should write!)

Am I allowed to say that I think Billy should be prescribed on the NHS for depression. Having him saying to me every morning 'Ello darlin, lovely to see you, give us a kiss' really cheered me up (Might not quite have the same effect on men!)

If anyone wishes say nice things to Nick Knowles and the production team about the Littlehampton programme, please e-mail catherine.worrall@bbc.co.uk

If you want to copy me in onthecoastnow@live.co.uk, I'd like to keep it with the other souvenirs.

Do you want me to copy that to the diary sticky Mike?

I'm going to leave it stickied for about one more week.

Would you mind? Good idea. I know not everyone drops in here every day.

    No probs. :)

The programme isn't on iPlayer by the looks of it, so I was thinking of taking the sticky down. But I'll leave it up for a bit now so people have a chance to see your message.

EDIT: Done. Copied the whole post across, as is.

Butti, is there something you're not telling us? ;)

Mike, I'm still mulling over what to write. I haven't yet found the right words to [eloquently] convey what I feel. :) (You stole them all from me in your lovely letter! :rotfl:)

    Mike's Mob
  • I've been watching DIY SOS for years and I've been looking at Money Saving Expert (including the forums) for years, but would not normally have been anywhere near this thread. (I'm mainly interested in buying out of print books, without getting ripped off and would not even think to surf into threads like this.)

I watched the episode over Christmas and thought it was the best DIY SOS, I've ever seen. I've always liked the show, but I really thought that the little house was impossible to repair.

I enjoyed the show so much that I was still talking about it this week. I mentioned it to someone (my sister, I think) and she told me that the "people on a forum" that I was talking about, were actually people on the MSE forum.

Anyhoo, being reminded of MSE made me remember that I wanted to sign up to the forum, so that I could be a bit more active in seeking out deals for my geeky stuff (and passing on deals to other people wanting geeky stuff). So I came over to sign up...

...and bumped into the sticky that fermi put up.

I'll just have a quick look to see what this was about, I thought.

That was about Wednesday night and today is Sunday! Apart from Friday, when I was out, that is about four days of life I've spent getting hooked in by Mike's problems and the friendship that the rest of you have invented out of thin air.

When it got to Thursday, I realised that I'd be loosing weeks of the time I normally spend doing geeky stuff, if I didn't start skimming things a bit. (I am actually supposed to be one of the moderators on a geeky forum, but have been reading Mike's story instead. :( )

But I can't grumble too much, as this thread, and the original thread have been the best alternative to a DVD extra for DIY SOS.

I would like to say thanks to Mike for allowing his house to be the star of DIY SOS. And I would like to say thanks to Mike's Mob for materialising out of the ether and inventing a bunch of friendships from thin air. :T

Now, I'm caught up, I will hopefully, be able to get back to my geeky money saving goals. But I want to wish Mike all the best in finding a way to stop cowboy builders from ripping people off.

You don't have to be as eloquent as Mike, isn't he starting a new career as a novelist?

    Hello Catherine,

I just wanted to say thank you to yourself, the production team and all the DIY'ers at DIY SOS for choosing and doing Mike's House. I went down to work on the site as one of Mike's Mob for a couple of days and it was an absolute highlight of 2010 for me. The team are an absolute delight to work with and the end product bore no resemblance to what had gone before.

It's nice to think that if enough people are concerned to make enough noise about somebody's personal circumstances then they can be heard and something can be done. I have watched the programme and it made fantastic viewing so hopefully the team are pleased too.

I thought the team were fantastic, talking to the public but being professional on the job. Julia in particular seems to have a very long fuse before she eventually lost it. What they didn't show on the programme was that her flower boxes had been assaulted by things coming out of the windows for most of the day. And I think Billy should be a prescription on the NHS for depression. Being greeted every morning by him with the words 'Ello darlin, how are you? give us a kiss' must be one of the best anecdotes to feeling blue.

So thank you again for responding to our collective cry for help and having Mike's Mob as a key theme in the programme. We have been heard.

Just say what you think- or in my case maybe I should stop saying what I think!

This has to be Post Of The Year if only for dedication!

Of course it's still only January...

    Thanks.
