    Northern Rock 7% - Sept 2013

Unfortunately I didn't have time to put much in :(

2013! Wow, impressive. Crystal ball, intuition or some kind of financial know how?

Somewhere in between. I recognised that it was a good rate but just couldn't get my hands on much cash.
I did pootle down to branch with a biggish chq on (unknown to me) the morning after they closed the offer but they wouldn't accept my deposit.
T'was just after all the panic in Sept 2008 when gov't (aka taxpayer) were guaranteeing deposits.

5 years @ 7% - guess we won't see that again for ages.

    I don't win 'em all - bought BP north of £5 !!

Oh no! Now you've made me very unhappy because, when I look it's a NWide ISA at 6.15%. So far, so good. But it ends October 11. I thought it was much longer.
Think I'm out of the big boys league here ... <hides under nearest rock> <well at least it's cool here!>

Oh for the joys of hindsight! . If I'd known at the time that the financial compensation payout for Icesave would have gone so smoothly, I might have been tempted to have shoved a little more money into one of their 3 year bonds at what now seems a ridiculously high interest rate. Or would I.........?
I suspect it will be a long time before we see those kinds of rates again.

My last 7%'er is Fixed Rate Bond, Issue 313 with Northern Rock which runs to 1st August 2013. Unfortunately I only have a couple of K in it.

If we go down to 6%+ accounts, I still have 7 with a more substantial combined balance:

    West Bromwich BS - Birthday Bonus 160 Account - 6% - matures July 2010
    Leeds BS - 3 Year Fixed Rate Postal Bond, Issue 5 - 6.7% - matures August 2010
    Buckinghamshire BS - Chiltern Gold Mine (Issue 1) - 6.25% - matures September 2010
    Halifax - Fixed Rate ISA - 6.1% - matures June 2011
    Santander (ex-B&B) - 3 Year Fixed Term eBond, Issue 34 - 6.75% - matures September 2011
    Halifax - Fixed Rate ISA - 6.2% - matures April 2012
    Halifax - Fixed Rate ISA - 6.2% - matures May 2012

    :money:thanks!

The not so good news is that my 6 & 7% accounts are only a smallish part of my cash savings. Across all my cash, the average rate is down to 3.82% currently, having seen a lot of good fixes drop off in the last 6 months and struggling to invest new cash at a decent rate.

I have a spreadsheet which I use to take an intra-month snap of my average cash interest rate. Its dropped off a cliff in the last 12 months, but is now stabilising:

    Jul 09 - 5.26%
    Aug 09 - 5.22%
    Sep 09 - 5.17%
    Oct 09 - 5.18%
    Nov 09 - 5.00%
    Dec 09 - 4.05% (loss of Halifax Guaranteed Saver Reward @ 6%)
    Jan 10 - 3.97%
    Feb 10 - 3.89%
    Mar 10 - 3.94%
    Apr 10 - 3.88%
    May 10 - 3.83%
    Jun 10 - 3.81%
