Where can a 16 year old get a job?

Daughter has just finished her GCSEs, and is ideally looking for a part time job over the summr, which she can continue into Sixth Form. She has sent a CV out to a fair few shops, but had no joy yet. However, I think she's setting her sights too high, wanting to work at Top Shop etc. Just wondering where you all have your part time jobs to give her some suggestions?

Domino's Pizza and football club were my 2
I also did temp work at John Lewis.
A few of my friends worked for Waitrose.
Bit late to be applying though, usually Spring and Autumn are ideal recruiting times.0 -
Supermarkets take on loads of young people, places like topshop no matter how desirable they may be do not really suit pt jobs, especially if you like what they sell!
You will need to buy a uniform from the shop which costs you, 75% off 3 items every 3 months, which is realistically nothing. 25% off everything else.
Also very young people do not often work there; fashion students or at least uni students are often snapped up in preference.
I would say just apply anywhere and everywhere; coffee shops, clothes shops, supermarkets.
She can't be too dismissive especiall in these harder times.War does not determine who is right - only who is left.0 -
Remind her she can't buy anything in Topshop if she has no job! Supermarkets are very good as the opening hours as so wide they have a lot of flexible shifts. I did heaps of jobs when I was young, from mucking out stables to selling luggage!0

I'd second the supermarkets - not only do they pay fairly well, there is also often the opportunity of extra work.
I worked in a library at weekends and for M+S; the library paid more per hour, but there was no chance of any extra hours; whereas I could always pick up holiday work and extra shifts in M+S.
I also did factory work through an agency; a lot of manual work and very early starts.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
JJB(or what ever there called nowadays) seem to take on lot of under 18 but the pay is bad. Just apply every where for work that doesn't particularly need any skills.0

try the job centre + website, although its increasingly hard for under 18s to get any work as too many employers have insurance that covers over 18s only0
-
Most places take under 18 except some such as pubs? due to licensing laws. Shops etc will take 16 year olds on.War does not determine who is right - only who is left.0

My cousin worked at a pub when he was 15 doing dishwashing, so don't avoid applying to a pub on licensing grounds, they may have a restaurant where she could get some nice tips too!0

Where did she do her Year 10 work experience? If she impressed, she'll already have a foot in the door.import this0

Yeah sorry I didn't mean that, but obviously serving.
Thanks for picking that up (:War does not determine who is right - only who is left.0
