cheaper alternative to catsan?

I have used catsan for 12 years now, but it has suddenly dawned on me how expensive it is compared to other litters. the cats both use trays, they dont 'go' outside, even though they go outside

what do you use, i dont like the wood pellet stuff and need something that prevents odour (as much as poss anyway)

thanks

I use the wood pellet stuff and find it really good and I don't get any odours. The only issue I have is that my cat gets a lot of it on the kitchen floor lol
  • We changed from Cat San to Golden Grey Master clumping litter about 1 year ago and havent looked back...its about £11-£12 for a 14kg bag but it last ages and locks in the odour extremely well - we have 3 indoor cats so ive tried just about ever litter out there!!

So far the only place I can find it is Zooplus.co.uk - they do free delivery on orders over £19. :)
  • Wood pellets have the downside that it is pine or cedar wood with the phenols which cause respiratory problems. I've said it before but Spud uses OKOPLUS it clumps. A 5L bag £3.99 last over a month - next best Worlds Best but that is more expensive. You can also flush these down the toilet.
Help me to help you :santa2:

All mine use OkoPlus Wood Pellet Cat Litter, about £7.50 for 10lts but the clumps can be removed so easily and in one lump that the whole tray only needs changing every two weeks or so - I was wary when I read that but it really does work.
Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me

Sainsburys do a very good litter which is their version of Catsan (lightweight, white in colour and extremely good at odor control). It's called 'Odor Control Cat Litter' and costs £2.95 for 10 litres. More info here: http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/groceries/index.jsp?bmUID=1278266444521

I've found it to be excellent and I can't tell any difference whatsoever between this and Catsan. Even my Mum who is very cranky about cat smells agrees that it does a sterling job.

In a money saving experiment I've recently started mixing it 50/50 with some Aldi clumping litter which is actually very sucessful so far. The cats seem to like it and the odor control good and as it's quite heavy compared to the lightweight litter you don't seem to get much kicked out of the tray.

    Hope that helps!

I used the cheapest clumping cat litter I could find. and cleaned out all solids as soon as they were detected, and cleaned the litter tray out at least once a week. and stuck a nice air freshener near the litter tray. No Probs with smells and I think it cost me about £1.99 for a bag of litter either from Aldi or local shop and about 50p for the air freshener and that would last for four to six weeks.
