Peers' Expenses 'To Be Cut To £300 Per Day'
http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Politics/Expenses-House-Of-Lords-Reportedly-Set-To-Cut-Peers-Allowances-To-Flat-Rate-Of-300-A-Cut-Of-15/Article/201006415655927?f=rss
'We're all in this together'. Aren't we ?It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
£300/day. Not a bad rate, esp as you needn't actually bother sticking around once you've signed in.
Nice work if you can get it. :cool:0 -
I wonder if any of you actually realise what it is like to be disabled, what it is like to be a carer of someone disabled.
Yes, you do get some who are making more of their illness than others (or just plain making it up) but that is not true in all cases. Quite a few still actually work alongside receiving DLA, the receipt of DLA actually helping them to be able to work..cut that and you make it difficult, if not impossible, for some disabled people to work.
I am sure that those genuinely disabled would love to swap the money they receive for their health back....but it is not a state of mind or attitude but their bodies being broken, sometimes permanently with no cure possible.
By the by, receiving DLA does not mean an automatic right to a motability car, that is only if you receive high rate mobility, something which is not easy to get as you have to be virtually incapable of walking or be so mentally/visually impaired, that it would be dangerous for you to walk. If you have only care needs and no mobility needs (I.E you can walk more than a very short distance), you will not be able to receive a motability vehicle.
A fair few DLA claimants already undergo medicals and so are already checked to make sure they are genuine. Incapacity benefit claimants are already undergoing a transfer over to ESA (where medicals are always carried out).
For the poster who said about breaking their wife's legs...sorry, DLA is not claimable for temporary illnesses of which broken limbs are.
The real fear is that genuine claimants will find themselves up the swanny without a paddle as has been proved with the ESA medicals where targets rather than need seems to be the order of the day. Some obviously very disabled people have failed the medical because the person holding the medical either didn't listen, didn't read reports from doctors and specialists or just plain put completely the opposite on the form to what was displayed in the medical! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Prove me wrong. Of course, physical or mental disability will exclude individuals from certain roles, however, to assume there is NO work that disabled individuals can do is quite a sweeping statement.
The jobs might not be their idea of perfect, but in the main they can work.
I think what needs to be looked at is how many jobs are available full stop, not who can and can't work.
The last time I looked there were about 500k vacancies in the UK
We have 2.5 million on the dole - 2.5 million on incapacity benefits -
Overall I think about 8 million people of working age aren't working.
I don't think anyone is arguing that people shouldn't work, disabled or not, the question is where?
The UK hasn't pursued a policy of full employment since the 1970s - I think Callaghan in 1976 was the first PM to let unemployment rise to fight inflation. It rose to 2.5%.
The welfare state was built on the premise that the working population and high employment would pay for the relatively small number of people receiving benefits, since the late 1970's that has changed and we have an increasing number of people claiming benefits, for whatever reason.
Will it stop? Who knows? Until governments have a radical rethink I don't think so, also lots of people not working keeps wages depressed, which suits business fine.
There aren't enough jobs to go around and some economists think there never will be.
I think you'll find most western economies face similar problems.0 -
More idiots I see.
Politicians are lining their own pockets, and some guys here cheering at cutting your own entitlements lol. Laughable.
The unemployed are far too demonised, by sheer ignorant retards on here.
You do know all of you are only one quick chat away from getting the chop.
There simply is not enough jobs. No argument. PHD or no qualifications, makes no difference.
People who want beenfits cut can give up their share of their entitlements lolHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I'm just wondering why foreign aid is such a sacred cow that they have ringfenced it? Surely when we have a £160billion defecit per year, the UK must forego giving aid to countries that have their own space programmes (India etc)?
I have often questioned this even in the so called "good times". Given the size we are and the !!!!!! we should be sorting in our own back yard ??I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0 -

I wonder when they will be dropping the Support for Mortgage Interest payments, back down to a limit of 100k mortgage?RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Weakness is in the mind. The only thing keeping disabled people out of work is their attitude.
Welcome to austerity!
Bo**ocks! If I come to you and smash both your legs to pulp with a jackhammer, would you still be able to do your normal job? I bet you would be whining like a pig and crying out for assistance, being the cripple that you would be. Miserable git.0 -

I knew a chap who had both his legs amputated , did he moan and whinge? wallow in self pity? no he got off his !!!! and got re trained and spent his working life in the printing industry. He sadly passed away a cpl of years ago, he was in his 40,s but worked from the age of 18..
Some of the people I know are on IB should hang their heads in shame , but they don't they just continue to milk the system and take advantage of the good will of the tax paying public..
One of the few good things Nu -labour did was to help/promote jobs for the disabled which is fair play to them...
Motorbility is another benefit that needs sorting out.
OK - how about you having your legs amputated? I would like to see what you would do. Idiot.0
