1st car service -what is a reputable garage?
Options
I've had my fill with my local vauxhall garage and won't pay for them to service my car. It's still got two more years warantee aslong as it is serviced by them or a reputable garage.
What is a reputable garage? my friend (a mechanic)is opening a garage next week could I use him and still be ok?

Harry, you have posted that before and it is simply NOT true. The parts used simply have to be produced to the same standard.
IE, oilspec, air/oil filter spec etc.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Hard to prove the same standard though. The only real way is by using OEM parts - otherwise they could quibble over the warranty (and some will!)0

You have a fair point, and some may wish to be further ripped off by dealer prices, but, in the case of filters and oils etc, the spec is clearly given in the manufacturers blurb. Standard service stuff up to end of waranty is available, any manf parts "ought" to be covered under waranty
;)

as a trade point of view its always worth use oem filters (dont cost much more) that way if there is a problem they cant wriggle out of the warranty0

Thanks for the replies folks. I've been to the garage today and it looks well, he's going to be doing mots as well as service work. I'll get vauxhall filters etc just to be on the safe side.0

Vauxhall parts cost next to nothing with a trade card, so your mate should be able to use genuine parts and still be a lot cheaper.0

I thought I heard on the news recently that the law had been changed so that dealers couldn't tie you into a warranty that stipulated you could only have your car serviced by a main dealer. Anyone else hear that?
We've got a VW Touran that needs servicing shortly and wanted to know whether we can get it serviced at our local friendly, reasonably priced and reliable garage or whether we have to pay over the odds at a dealers instead? Or does it still depend on the specific terms of our individual warranty?
Thanks for any help. :TBig thanks to Martin Lewis for helping us start to sort out our finances!!!:A
Best Comp win:X-Box 360!!
And thank you to all posters! You're wonderful!0 -
So long as it's serviced according to the manufacturer's schedule and using OEM parts at a VAT registered garage - you're bombproof.0
