What credit card is best for a first credit card, and you have limited history?

I just turned eighteen at the end of February, so I have limited credit history.
I was wondering what credit card is used for building credit, and would be the best choice for a person getting they're first credit card.

Barclaycard Gold would be ideal for you.
The interest rate is ALOT lower than the CAp One or Vanquis (which are both rubbish).
Take a look here: http://www.barclaycard.co.uk/personal-home/cards/gold/index.html0 -
That says you need to be 21? Are they lenient with this?Think about our Gold Credit Card if you:
Need to strengthen your credit rating and want some time out from paying interest on your balance transfer
Have an average credit rating
You have no history of bankruptcy
You have not had any County Court Judgments (CCJs) or Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVAs) registered against you in the past 5 years
You have a limited history of managing credit commitments well i.e. have existing credit cards, loans, overdraft or mortgage, but have no more than 2 credit commitments
Your record of paying credit commitments on time is less than 4 years old
You have not missed ANY payments on a credit card or loan in the last 12 months
Don't already have a Barclaycard
Have had a permanent UK address for 3 months or more
Have a regular income of more than £17,500 pa
Excluding a mortgage, your debt on credit cards or store cards is less than 40% of your income
Are aged 21 or overSignature down for maintenance :rotfl:0 -
No they arent lenient, you have to be 21 or over, and the annual salary requirements might be out of reach for an 18 year old0

No.
If that's the requirements for the card then that's the requirements.0 -
Hi all
First of all i'm 22 years old, I have never had a credit card or a loan personally before because i have never really needed to borrow.
I have defaulted on 2 payments (Unpaid phone contract £252.53, Unpaid unauthorized overdraft 900 odd quid) I have paid both of those debts off in full and as I am aware I am debt free currently.
Of course my credit history is not too good, i checked it with the 30 day free trial on creditexpert.com and theres a few bad references on there.
I am going on holiday soon and have a few things to pay off (car 800 quid etc) i am completely new to this game and dont have a damn clue what im doing even when ive read the advice on this site i find it confusing.
I want to borrow £2000.00 I will use it for paying the 800 quid off and the other things and the rest ill use for spending on holiday but ill take cash with me.
Whats the best thing to do? a loan or a card? Where will i get accepted for a cheap loan/card? because i have tried and all i get is declined...
thank you

My first card was a student credit card from lloyds, initial limit of £750.
Worth a go if you're still in full time education but you may need to wait for a few months from opening a current account.War does not determine who is right - only who is left.0
