The worlds his oyster mate as theres plenty of choice. If he is planning to get Sky TV or has a mobile with Orange and spends over £30 a month then free broadband could be available

With a BT phone line, your friend has got a lot of choice. If he intends on doing a lot of downloading though, he will have to pick carefully. A lot of ISPs now have download limits, or strict FUPs (fair usage policies) that that are aimed at restricting customers that download a lot.

The best site to check out broadband packages is https://www.adslguide.org.uk

A lot of these 'free' broadband packages are limited for downloads. Skys free, and Oranges cheaper packages only come with a 2GB download limit. This would be useless for anyone that wants to download movies/music. Their unlimited packages also come with a FUP that restricts downloading at peak times, and also if you download too much constantly they will restrict your speeds.

Before signing up with a supplier, your friend needs to read the limits/FUP very carefully to make sure that he wont be stuck in with a contract that wont suit his internet use.

  • Signed up to Namesco myself on the broadband max package, 24.50 each month, 60 gb of peak downloads, and unlimited offpeak. No traffic shaping, no throttling of connections, no p2p caps, and no port blocking. And their support is 24/7, and they have their own BT centrals.
