Citroen Xsara radio coding

Just bought the wife an 02 plate Xsara HDi, and it has a radio cassette in, and I intend to change it for an oem cd player.

Neighbour, who has a similar car, says it won't need coding, but I think otherwise.

Any ideas?

Some of these units are 'vin' coded to the car or immobiliser and appear not to be easily changed even in the same model!!

Have alook HERE, srcoll the models and see if yours is listed, best I can do i'm afraid

Very informative link that SS. Many thanks for that.

Taking into consideration the cost of re-coding, it may be just as well getting an aftermarket version like a JVC, Sony etc.

I had a similar dilemma with my 406, and settled on an aftermarket version instead of purcahsing an original unit and then having it re-coded, and it works a treat.

Sure you lose some of the inbuilt display, usually the radio related stuff, but I can live with that.
