Lloyds TSB do this too. Debit card transactions from Thursday or Friday sometimes leave on Sunday with Monday's date, but payments due in on Monday arrive and clear on Sunday, but again with Monday's date.

What would be the problem anyway? If you didn't have enough and were planning on putting cash in on Monday, the payment still has the date for Monday, so you wouldn't be charged if you're back in the black by Monday evening.

You may not have noticed but it works both ways - automated credits such as wages will credit you on the Sunday as well!

When I worked for NWB, I used to explain it as the computer system didn't recognise weekends and thought it was Monday lol.

Thats how I explain it lol :D

Its a nightmare though as after 18.30 on friday the system thinks its monday.

Not if the OP is correct (could he not be?) and his Bank is Halifax. They run Batch over the weekends and never pre-process DDs ...... nor do they make credits visible in advance.

The only thing they pre-process (part way through Sunday for some odd reason) is SOs destined for other parts of Halifax - such as a Regular Saver

Banks do this. I had 2 small appliance insurance payments taken 4/5 days ahead plus my sons monthly University accommodation. This of course put me overdrawn as it was £450, not an amount that I would have lying in my current account. I contacted them and was told by a very young lady that I would be charged £30 as I had gone overdrawn. I told her in no uncertain terms that I had been with the bank since my student days 25 years in total and if they did so I would leave and go to a different bank. This comment was greeted with indifference and I transferred my account. Now with Halifax with their reward account and I have had no problems like this. Saying that my account has an automatic £250 overdraft in case anything goes wrong again.
