Hello, can anyone help me please? While on facebook the page froze so I had to switch off and restart. It didnt start up and get to the desktop, it didnt get that far before it highlighted an option to repair the system so I clicked on that. It kept on trying to restart but in the end it went on for well over an hour. Eventually it said it wasnt going to be able to repair it automatically and I could click for details. It gave pages of tests and the results were all ok until at the end it said
Root cause found - registry is corrupt - repair action - registry roll back! Of course I have no idea what this means because I am a computer numpty.

My brother suggested using system restore but I have to be able to get to the desk top to use that dont I!

Hubs connected up a wireless router the other day but its been used since then without a problem. Just mentioning it because it flashed up a message about had I installed new hardware, but then it went off before I had a chance to read it.

Does it need to go to the computer doctor or I can I try a little self help first. Its a Dell and its running vista basic. The router is a Belkin.

Download and save the Vista Recovery Disc Image

When the download is complete, burn the resulting .iso file(image) to a CD using ImgBurn(download and install, but don't install the Yahoo ToolBar. 'Untick' the option).
You have to Burn Image to Disc, not burn Data disc. Guide(skip step 2b)

Once you have created the disc, place the disc in the Dell drive and restart the machine. Hit Enter to Boot from CD when the option is presented.

Will I have to do this on a different computer (told you I was a numpty) because mine wont even start! Is there another way to do it that I dont know about?

I am going to look on the Dell website to see if there's anything on there. I am using my netbook and it doesnt have a CD drive so I can't burn any discs (even if I knew how to do it) but thanks for your help, I get panicky and can't think straight around computers because they just make me feel inadequate. I dont understand the terminology people use but I am trying.

Donnie: Does it need to be a CD or is there a work around (eg. perhaps a USB?)

not sure what you mean about the usb, i know what one is but not what I should be doing with it, following some instructions from Dell website but its not having much success I'm going to let a friend of the family have a look at it for me, he builds computers and all that sort of thing so he should be able to sort it, if its do-able, I just wanted to try in case it was something obvious, but I don't want to make it worse,

    thanks everybody,

I appreciate all your help and I have pressed the thanks button!

Just going out to eat. See if you have the option to do a Repair Install with the DELL CD that you do have. Check the instructions on the website or manual supplied with your PC.
