erm.... what about trying to take your dogs for walks so they do not need to use the garden as a toilet?

    just a though....:A

erm how about not being quite so judgemental???????

My dogs are walked............. but they also have the run of the garden whilst I am at work.
I don't have a problem with them using the garden to go to the toilet just wanted to be able to clean the patio hygenically and requested advice on best/recommended products to do this!!

I use Formula H to clean my floors. It has a lovely smell and It's what a lot of Vets use. It was my Vet who recommended it to me when I asked them what they used because I liked the smell when I visited them. I'm not sure if it is ok to use on patios though

Dont worry about it hun, there is always one holier than thou "think they know it all" on every board, and they usually start their posts with the word 'erm' funnily enough ;)

May I direct you to 'user cp' left hand column 'edit ignore list'.

Back to the problem in hand. I use Jeyes, always have done and never found a problem. If I ever nip into Aldi I buy one of their big fabric conditioners and use the entire bottle with a stiff yard brush. Smells lovely and works a treat :D

Ah - I live in a flat, I do not have a garden so I walk my dog regularly to pee/poo outside.

While I am at work - I have a dg walker that takes the dog out.

Can't see why this can not be done by people who have gardens and want the gardens to look/smell nice?

Not whiter than white - just realistic.

Thanks to everybody who has posted responses to my query.
Jeyes fluid seems a reasonably popular choice.........and I'm guessing with no ill effects to the dogs.

My vet has suggested I try safe4 odour killer which apparently breaks down the uric acid enzymes. Quite expensive but if it does the trick it will be worth it:) Currently searching the net for best price on a 5l bottle.

I am going to try washing the yard down with jeyes fluid each evening and a weekly/fortnightly spray with the safe4 product. I will report back with results!!!

    Thanks again

You live in a flat so thats different, you have no garden so you cannot preach to others who let a dog use the garden. Thats just ridiculous. You keep your dog in a flat so you must have ways to keep your flat smelling nice yes? You would want doggy smell eliminated in your flat the same as people who have gardens would like to keep their patios smelling nice.

Firstly - I do not preach, just made a suggestion.

My dog does not pee/poo in a flat - THIS is my way of "trying to make it smell nice".

I merely made a suggestion on how to AVOID the problem, that is all. But everyone wants to jump at my throat for this... how typical for this forum...LOL

If you re-read the way this conversation has gone, you might see that it was the way you gave your advice. Whilst few of us would want to do it the way you do regarding your dog, I'm sure no one intends to 'jump down your throat' - just giving our opinions, as you are. And difference of opinion comes with every forum ;)

Jeyes, bleach, Zoflora, washing powder etc should do the job & won't harm your dog(s) as long as you use them at the appropriate dilutions & don't let your dogs onto the surface until dried.

There are a variety of animal safe / specific disinfectant products, eg Trigene, Vetzyme, Virkon, Hibiscrub (Hibiscrub is also used on humans & directly on animals by vets so should be particularly safe) in addition to those already mentioned

For a more natural & cheaper solution however you could first try washing it down with either baking / bicarbonate of soda or vinegar
