the jewellery in asda and sainsburys is nice. In Asda you can get earrings and necklace sets for 5.00 and under. I usually get mine in the half price sales. If you take them of the jewellery card and put them in a gift box they look even better.

Rummage all the shop sales. Superdrug have 70% off some lines. I think I recall Exclamation, So, Impulse box sets for 3 or 4 quid each. Accesorise have 70% off their clearance stuff too. 75% off stationary bits and bobs in Smiths if your buying for kids.

I saw some PJ's in Primark today that I actually fancy for myself. £4 a pair for cotton jarmies. Not tried them before so I dont know what they would be like. Probably just last one season but for 4 quid you can't grumble. They were folded with a ribbon and looked really nice for a gift.

Maximise 3 for 2's, BOGOF's special offers etc as already stated. Also if you have book lovers places like Smiths have a book of the week paperback on half price. I have bought a few in recent weeks for £3.50 instead of the RRP of £6.99.

Boxed choccies on offer in Woolies, muy mum got 2 boxes for 3.99 each last week of Chocolate orange segments and Toblerone (i think) but they were BOGOF!! 2 boxes for £3.99

Use a loyalty card for boots and smiths and start saving points for next year. I save mine all year to spend at Christmas, it all helps.

    hi broomdocker,

i love the pjs from primark thats where i am going this afternoon to buy new ones!

  • What about making home made sweets as an extra. One bag of icing sugar and a bottle of peppermint essence makes dozens of peppermint creams, easily packed in little boxes lined with kitchen roll.

Could you make up a special night in hamper? I think for £5 you could get some bubble bath, chocolates a paperback novel etc (admittedly with some canny shopping).

Our local Focus DIY store has 75% off their garden bits at the moment.
I bought MIL (for Crimbo) a Fairy garden ornament which is also a Solar light. (Wings and body light up, quite cute really) Original price £19.99 down to £4.99
My mum has a discount card so got extra 15% off. Ended up paying £4.28
    I'm well pleased.

  • I went into my local Boots today (I have a tiny one) and they have loads of toiletry bags for £5. Really lovely ones that are reduced down from £12 and £15. One is an FCUK.

The Primark £4 PJ'sa re really good quality,. I am still wearing the ones I bought this time last year, however be careful of the sizes, I found then very very small on the legs & couldnt't get my usual size over my thighs so had to exchange for a size up with fitted thighs & everywhere else perfectly. They wash really well too:D

Don't know if they will have them again this year but last year they were also selling really really super-soft fluffy socks for £1 a pair, they make perfect bed socks to add to the PJ's for a gift set. Alas they only had them in cream or pink so you might need to co-ordiante the PJ's to the socks if the same this year.

    Good luck with your quest;)
