    How much should you wait?

My account was opened on 30 June, I applied by mid August and they said no. I plan to re-apply for an overdraft and credit card by January.

In order to get a better internal score I have opened a ISA and regular saver accounts with them. For the reg saver I have an standing order to transfer £250 per month and for the eISA I pay in the money from child benefit, which is £81.20 every four weeks.

I also have a few direct debits and pay in over £2000 per month.

Am I likely to obtain an overdraft and credit card by January? If I get them I will go further and try a loan for car finance by February or March.

What I need to know is whether they will rely on internal score or perform a credit search. Not that I have any nasties, but just about 18 months credit history.

I have always been told by branch staff, that you need to wait six months before you put in another application. My experience is that they look at both the internal score, and do a search with Callcredit.

I believe it is both as they look at internal scores which are
    40+ account
    50+ od
    60+ cc
    70+ loan

and then also conduct a check with Experian and Call Credit.

IIRC it was n-i-d that told us this - a few times too

The strange thing, is I qualify for loans, but always get turned down for their credit cards, yet you need a higher score for loans.

So 6 weeks? Is that all?

    Who did you work for?

Sutton if your bank don't give you a bank account, change banks they are crying out for new customers,my girlfriend always miss payments bless her,but she went to change her bank from santander to barclays the other day and barclays said she can have any account she want,so she choose the one with free breakdown, free phone insurance and £300 overdraft.
  • Hi, I've decided to join your thread (I'm more of a lurker who reads instead of posting :D) but wondered if anyone could answer my question?

I moved to my current address in February this year but will be moving again in a couple of weeks. I have forgotten to enrol myself on the Electoral Roll at my current address, although all my accounts are registered to my current address. I want to obviously change my address with all my accounts to my new address but my question is... Should I enrol on the Electoral register at my current address before transferring it to my new address? And if I did enrol, will it show up as being registered since I moved in back in February or would it start from the date I was added?

Sorry if that sounds confusing, I'm hoping someone will be able to understand! Thanks in advance :)
  • Hi PinkPrincess

I can help with this query; Councils send out forms to fill in each August and then update from September to December. So no, your current address wouldn't be shown from February and your new address won't go on until December 1st. You should really do this asap and the quickest way is online. If we had done it online before September we would safely be registered now!

  • Hi Magiciansgirl,

Thanks for your reply. So does that mean I should only register on the electoral roll at my new address then? I'm guessing I'm unable to register and my current address now as I'm moving in two weeks! I just didn't want to have an electoral roll 'gap' on my credit file :(

I've just returned from a trip to Natpest!

I got my risk band :D I had a sneaky look at the screen, until she saw what I was up to and moved it well away from me!!

I have Risk Band 6 (bad?) and also I managed to see "Credit Score Responsibly" or similar? Didn't quite catch the last word - is that Natpest speak for be ultra careful? I was refused an upgrade to £1,400 overdraft (grrr, could've used that to bet with!) based on "credit scoring". She asked if there had been activity so I said yea and that my student loans go into there.... she then had a look back through and you could see all my transactions.... She said have I seen my credit file and said if I get it and bring it in they can review it and try to get it overturned, as it's very weird I've been declined but there is nothing she can do about it without a credit report.

If I took in my reasonable looking Equifax one would it be worth a shot? :p And how good/bad is Risk Band 6? I'm guessing a credit card app in March is out the window!?

Hi, yes, you'll have to register for the new address as you can't register retrospectively. Having a gap isn't nearly as bad as not registering and you can always ask credit ref. agencies to note that you have applied; that's what I did. If you didn't ask specifically ask to be removed from the electoral role at your pre-February address then you will actually still be on that role anyway.

I'm annoyed that we missed the deadline but we are still on for earlier address until the change is made.

Does being on the electoral roll in 2 places affect you? I'm using home for all my applications (cue Experian being a bunch of jobsworths), but I know I've been registered at uni (halls register us automatically) and will be registered again at uni soon (for this year). I've never declared this address anywhere though, and tell companies I live at home. The electoral roll info for this address doesn't appear on Equifax anyway but does for my home one, so is this 2nd registration just "forgotten" if I don't use this address to apply for things?

Not sure, that seems to long a gap, I'd phone up if it's not there Monday.
