Thats OK - its a free country but I'm not sure I see the point of the :(. Are you scolding me?

IMO Trade vinyl matt works fine in the vast majority of situations and I've never had any complaints. For really hard wearing requirements I tend to use Trade Diamond Matt. Of course Endurance is just the retail version of that.

    Cheers

Of course I was not scolding you , trade matt does work fine in the majority of situations, but Op is asking what is better for the kitchen, and endurance/real life even though its the retail version of Diamond matt and more pounds cheaper is far better for the OP purpose than trade, or even retail vinyl paint.

Endurance it is then! Thank you very much for all your input. Once I have painted I don't want to have to repaint as will have to cover all the new units up etc so will go with the Endurance.

Just another question on this... When using kitchen/endurance paint on fresh plaster, do you still undercoat with matt emulsion first?

Astec, Always seal fresh/new plaster with Matt paint first, thinned, ie a mistcoat.
Never seal new plaster with silk, softsheen, onecoat etc.
Once you have sealed it with Matt, then you can apply any paint finish that you want, plus it works out much cheaper specially if you have a fair bit of new plaster to paint, buy some contract/trade white matt, thin it down, once the plaster is sealed sealed then use your endurance.
On your first coat of endurance, slightly thin, infact it doesnt hurt to slightly thin all your colour coats, you get a much better finish.
Endurance has like a slimy feel to it when you are brushing it on, so I would do one wall at a time, ie, cut in top/bottom/sides, then roll, then go onto the next wall.

It will be better in the long run to add some water, specially in this weather. :)

Sorry Misgrace, is there any point buying the paint for new plaster? It will be around 2 weeks following plastering that I will be painting at the minimum.

We have not too much plaster to paint as the units will be covering a lot of the room - is there even any point getting trade/contract paint if it would be less than 2.5l for the whole room?!

    Thanks again!

To add to what MisG has said. The reason for mist coating is that if you do not the plaster just sucks all the moisture out of your nice expensive paint and it ends up looking as though it has been applied with a trowel rather than a roller or brush.

Are your walls being fully plastered (ie back to bare brick/block then bonding and a topcoat) or have they just been skimmed? If skimmed you can paint 24/48 hours afterwards. If its a full plastering job you really should wait 6 weeks for it to dry out properly. Having said that this weather it will dry out a lot quicker but just because the topcoat has gone a nice pale pink it doesn't mean that there isn't a whole lot more moisture to come out. "Paint for New Plaster" is pants IMO.

Contract emulsion is cheap for a 10 litre tub. Thats why its mostly used for mist coating. If you don't need that much just buy the sheds cheap own branded stuff. You won't need to thin it much either - its mostly water anyway. :)

    Cheers
