Tesco, returning faulty goods!!!!

Has anyone else had problems returning faulty goods to Tesco? I bought a camera 10 months ago and it became faulty. I tried to return it today but they refused to help as the USB cable was missing. They wouldn't repair, exchange or refund in any way whatsoever. I am now stuck with a faulty camera but, on the advice of a friend who is a manager in electrical retail, I have decided to contact Trading Standards as what they are doing is illegal. Please tell me that I am not the only person out there who feels like they are hitting their head against Tesco's brick wall!!!!!!!

Why is it illegal?0

Buy the same camera again, take the lead out and put it in the packaging with the old camera then ask for a refund.0

Then they would have broken even, on the basis of the same camera still being available and still being the same price of course.
Remember stores are allowed to attempt a repair first and then replace if repair is significantly inconvenient to the consumer. On top of that, even assuming they did offer a refund right off the bat, they can reduce the amount refunded to take into consideration use the consumer has had of the product. You keep using that word. This is ridiculous, the USB cable missing shouldn't affect them repairing it.
Take it back again and make more fuss, or try another Tesco's.0 -

Just to confirm there is nothing illegal about this at all.
The SOGA states after 6 months the OP must prove the fault was inherent or non durable.
A Warranty is seperate and can have any terms they so wish attached to it.
All in all Tesco are perfectly in their rights not to do anything.0 -
Have you tried customer services at head office? You can sometimes get more there than in the store, especially if you are reasonable, patient and pleasant (I'm sure you will be, but you'd be surprsed by the amount of people who think that being horrible to a member of staff trying to help you will make them do more/try harder when the reverse is true!)Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0

I presume you have proof of purchase? The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

Why does a missing USB lead mean that Tesco's can't send it for REPAIR. Of course Tesco are not in their rights not to do anything.
Take it back again and ensure you speak to the store manager, not a department manager. Also make sure thet you are in a position where other shoppers hear you.0
