Hi everyone
I'm really hoping someone can give me some good advice as I don't know what to do. My partner has moved out and left me and our 3yr old son. We are renting from a landlord and I've stayed here for a year and a half but my names not on the tenancy form but my names on council tax. The ex said he will pay one more months rent and that's it. He said he'd look after our son while I try to find somewhere else to stay. My mum is overcrowded and she wouldn't take me back anyway after some bad words between her and the ex cause I took his side.
I have a month to find somewhere to stay but I don't want to leave my boy with him. Can somone please tell me what to do?

Do you work? Would the landlord be willing to allow you to take over the tenancy?Gone ... or have I?0

Have you spoke to the landlord about changing the names on the tenancy? So, you take over from your parter.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Hi

I don't work, I never went back to work after I had the wee one, that was almost two years now. There was no one to look after him and nursery was sooo expensive. I haven't asked the landlord, I don't have a deposit to put down plus I have no wages
When we got this place, the ex had to put down alot of money and show his wage slips. I just really need some help cause I don't know what the options are?!?! 0 -

Contact Shelter, they will be able to advise. There is also loads of information on their website. Might be an idea to visit the CAB as well, and possibly even your local authority.
Personally, I wouldn't panic just yet, even if your ex stops paying the rent, the landlord will have to go through a reasonably long winded process to evict you, which will give you loads of time to find somewhere else. Your LA might even advise you to stay put until you are physically evicted - this could take upwards of 2-3 months.0 -

There's other resources on the Shelter site that should help you.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

If the landlord agree's to put your name on the tenancy you will be able to claim LHA (housing benefit).
You should be able to claim income support, child tax credits, council tax benefit as well as your child benefit you already get.
Surely your ex doesn't expect you to move out of your home so swapping over the names on the tenancy will save you having to find a deposit.
Good luck.I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

get advice ASAP - you need to go to your council if you can. My ex left me and my 3 children to move into one bedroom at my mums. We have been there 6 weeks and move into our new home Monday.........
Call your family, tell them what has happened. My parents were more than willing to help when they realised i was leaving him
DFW since JAN 2009 - 2014 will be the year i finally clear debts
Just to see which month

thanks very much everyone for the support so far, my ex just cares about money. Half the arguments weve had has been over money and he use to go mental when i spent too much money on groceries even if it was stuff for the baby. So i don't want to cost him anything more and just get away from his controlling. I just found how he'll have to give me child maintanace money so he's not gonna be happy about that.
i didn't think I could get housing benefit cause it's not a council flat, i just hope the landlord lets me go on the agreement. If I don't get on the agreement, do you think the council can find me a house in time? Just worried becaused am a good person and want my boy to grow up in a safe area.
ill look at the shelter website, thank you all so much0 -

You will be eligible for LHA which should cover the rent (although obviously this will be limited to the number of bedrooms the LA state you are entitled to). Although you may not get a council property, you will be able to rent privately and receive LHA. Your council or Shelter will be able to advise further. You certainly won't be left homeless, even if you have to make do with a smaller property than you would like or perhaps one in an area you'd rather not live.0 -

Housing benefit is paid whether you live in a council house or rent privately.
Take at look at this link https://lha-direct.voa.gov.uk/Secure/LHARateSearch.aspx?SearchType=PostCode
it will tell you the rate for your area bearing in mind that you will only be entitled to the 2 bed rate regardless of how many bedrooms you actually have.I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.
