Put yourself in the underwriters shoes.

If you blank out something he wants to see hes going to fail the case and you get no mortgage.

If you blank out something and hes happy with whats left then you do get the mortgage.

Personnally if I was an underwriter and I got a bank statement that had info blanked out I would very likely fail the case, or at best request new statements without the blanks AND an explanation as to why there were blanks there.

This may give you a little confidence in just sending them in though: My brothers mortgage application required bank statements as supporting evidence and it just so happens I got him into match betting a couple of month before he applied. His statements made him look like a right gambling addict, and worse there was not withdrawals, only deposits as he was saving his balance in Betfair. Underwritters didnt even blink, mortgage offer came out without any questions.

    Hope that helps

The fact that you are asking for a reduction in your mortgage payments makes your lifestyle and spending habits very poignant to your lender. Can you imagine them reducing your mortgage payments when you are stuffing your face with deliveries from the local take away and Majestic Wine ?

They know your income, now they want to see you spending.

There is NO privacy when you are "begging" for somebody to lend you their money. They will ask you to sign consent forms so they can request reference from your employer, bank, and anyone they fee like. A Building Society forced me to make my mother sign an application for a mortgage to establish some sort of prior obligation, when I bought her house, and made her sign an undertaking to remove herself from the house. Even my solicitor found this beyond the pail. Throw her on the street, to get the mortgage!

You don't have to give your consent, and they don't have to lend you their money.

I had to show my last 12 months bank statements and sent in both the normal bank statements you receive each month and the latest print out from the online bank just to prove I was not overdrawn every month or running up bank charges!
Dont blank anything out and if they do ask about X and Y on the statement then explain.

I've always had to provide bank statements when mortgaging or re-mortgaging. The last time was back in December with Woolwich. My wife simply printed her online statements and I provided paper copies. I can't see a problem with doing it because the banks will simply need to know whether your lifestyle supports the loan. As long as your expenditure does not regularly exceed your income, there shouldn't be a problem.
