Trying to raise money for a particular charity . i'm doing The marathon 2011. I know its early but I have registered for the Marathon next year and was wondering how to raise the maximum amount I can for my chosen charity. i am also doing various jumps etc as well for the charity.
Justgiving.com looks very popular but they are looking £15 per month and then a percentage of the donations.
Is there anything similar to this or can I use a link on facebook ? WOuld I be able to use a separarte bank account and post details ? Is this leaving the account open to fraud then.....?
can anyone tell me.... due to personal circumstances i would dearly love to give something back to the charity that has helped our family so much in what has been a traumatic time for us....
Thanks

worth a look as a fund raiser, the only profit made is the spreading of the Virgin name (I think) but its recommended as an alternative to Justgiving0 -

may be more ideas in here - not sure though have only browsed the thread. Good luck though.0 -
Setting up facilities to give money securely does cost money. Yes, charities pay a monthly charge to JustGiving but it does 'pay for itself'. Yes, there's a one-off set up fee from Virgin, but it will pay for itself in time. And remember, once the charity has registered with either of these (or any of the others), it's done, they don't have to do it for each new fundraiser. You could ask who they are already registered with and whether they have a preference who you use!
If the charity had a direct facility for online giving, there would be costs associated with that too, but they'd generally be hidden.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
As Savvy_Sue said, it's not each fundraiser which is charged the £15. If you go to the Justgiving website (don't know about the virgin one) you can search for your charity to see if it is registered. If it's registered they're already paying the £15 fee so the more people who use the site to raise money the more worth they get out of it. The 5% per donation mainly comes out of the Gift Aid and therefore the charity still gets the full amount that you donate plus 23% Gift Aid (rather than 28% Gift Aid).
Many of my friends use Justgiving to raise money for various charities and have found it really useful especially as the charity gets the money within the week.0 -

Just so we're clear, have you entered the ballot, or have you got a charity place for the race?
If you've taken a charity place, the webistes are normally pretty good at providing fund raising ideas, ways to collect sponsorship, that kinda thing...0 -

I have just done a search...... Is this the page I go to to set my justgiving page ( obviously nearer the time )

I thought I had to pay the £15 per month. I want to raise as much as possible for the charity....They have been fantastic0 -

I think what Idiophreak means is that there are two ways to enter a marathon. Either you sign up(for the big marathons you enter a ballot) and are allocated a place or you can get a charity place - some charities will be give a number of places on the marathon to give to fundraisers.niceday999 wrote: »I have just done a search...... Yup, that's the page. MRF already pay the £15 so this is a great way of raising money. MRF are fab, I know quite a few of the people who run it0 -
That is fantastic.....You dont realize how life threatening Meningitis is until it comes knocking at your door......
I cannot praise both the 24 hour helpline and the local office highly enough.........I will make sure I get my site up and running well in advance and kick off the fundraising.....
Thanks for letting me know how Justgiving works as I really thought each individual had to pay £15 a month.....
