Diamond fell out of Tiffanys Engagement Ring!

Hello all,
Last week my wife got home from work and realised that the diamond from her was missing from her ring.
I bought the ring on March 2008 from a Tiffany's store in the US, it cost around 1800 pounds, that took me a while to save up for. The clasps that hold the diamond are not damaged in any way and it is a platinum ring.
My wife is absolutely devastated not at the cost of the ring but more of the sentimental value. The ring is not insured and we don't have home insurance as we only live in a little flat with not many valuable contents.
I was wondering if anyone knew if Tiffany's have any legal obligation to replace the diamond? Mt wife as already called and they have said we can not replace it. I paid for it on my credit card, and still have the receipt and certificate of authenticity. I never thought that a brand name such as Tiffany's, that the diamond would just fall out especially after paying all that money for it!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks
Chris Dawson

The problem with that is the buying it from the US, you're not covered by UK consumer law i believe. Even covered by UK law you would need to prove that the fault is inherent and not something that happened through misuse or wear and tear.
If theres anything that can be done i'm sure someone will post but theres not anything to my own knowledge. Sorry. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

As the above poster said as you bought it in America you are covered by their laws if they have any, not UK laws. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

I bought the ring when I went to propose to my wife, she is American. I might try writing to Tiffanys, but don't think it will do any good!
Thanks for the replies.

I hate to be pedantic, but if you do write to them, please note it is Tiffany, not Tiffanys.Gone ... or have I?0

Hello All,
Just an update on the ring situation, I called the Tiffany store in San Diego, where I bought the ring. They asked me to send the ring back to them, QA had a look at it and decided that one of the prongs was slighty bent but not enough for the diamond to fall out. To cut a long story short, they replaced the ring with a brand new one, My wife and I are very happy.
