Hi
Am completing a house move soon, the people we are buying from are not taking their number with them, anyone know if it is possible to arrange O2 home phone and broadband in advance for the day I move in? Or are we obliged to take over the line from BT first, stay with BT a year, then switch to O2?

You can choose the line supplier e.g. BT/The Post Office, then when it's set up, order the broadband from O2.
O2 don't do line activations (though that's come up for question and it might be worth asking them) so you can't go to O2 immediately for the line rental.
However if you pick the Post Office with a 1 month contract for the line you can move to O2 quickly, others tend to have 12 or 18 month contracts.0 -
How good are the Post Office for line rental as the booklet in the PO suggests you get a lot for your money i.e. free weekend calls to mobiles ?????
And the fact that it's only a monthly rental for the phoneline sounds promising.
Is their call centre for faults on the line UK based or overseas ?0 -
Hello, I'm a newbie to the forum but I have a Post Office home phone.
Had trouble getting them to install a line with several delays not due entirely to them but to BT. Their customer service is a bit hit and miss, long waits for someone to answer but basically their charges are reasonable and you are not stuck with a 12 month contract which is a big plus. Once you have a line with them they are about as good as anyone else it was just the initial installation I had trouble with. The billing can be managed online so there are various options of how to pay and you can chop and change whenever you want so that side of the operation is fine. On the whole they are OK, if you have a breakdown they do get it sorted fairly quickly.
The call centre is based in the UK as far as I know, Newcastle I think but not too sure, certainly isn't based in India or somewhere like that0 -
Thanks for that.
It's just a pity that when you go to different companies for a phoneline they are still dependent on Openreach to do the installation and faults.
I recently joined an ISP for phoneline and internet.
Openreach did a site survey as I am on a longline and gave the go ahead.
So phoneline and internet was activated but after a few days I disconnected the router for an hour.
When I came back and switched on again the router wouldn't sync with the exchange.
The ISP sent out Openreach who did some diagnostic tests on the line and a few days later sent a report to the ISP that broadband wasn't possible on that line.
In other words it wasn't worth their while to spend time and money to investige the problem.
The ISP can't use anyone else so that's me scuppered.
If I want a phone for voicecalls fine anything else is a no no.0 -
Hi. just wondering how much the post office would be for 1 month? are they the only company that do 1 month deals? i'm looking to get 02 home and broadband, but the line in my flat isn't currently connected so would need to connect it first if o2 don't do it?0

Last time I checked PO home phone was £11.75 per month so if you join and then have to give a months notice then I'd expect the phoneline will cost £23.50.
ID Net also do phoneline one month contract and they do broadband as well.0 -
PO line connection is circa £117. Yes, you'll need to do that, and then migrate to O2 later on if you want to.0

I just called BT as I was advised to do in another thread on mse. They charge £127.99 for a line connection if you are not going to do a deal with them. Or it costs £29.99 and then a further £12.79 a month for 18 months for a landline that gives free calls at weekends.
That sounds like a really poor deal.
Is there an alternative to this? I really would like to stick with O2 who are £17 a month for landline and broadband, but I need to get the line reconnected and dont fancy the BT option.
Thanks in advannce.0 -
Post office just quotes me £110 to get the line back up and running, then I would have to stay with them for 1 month at a cost of £12.50...sounds better than the BT option!
Any cheaper options?0 -
O2 could connect the line direct and save you lots of grief but they cant be bothered.0
