Im due an upgrade and with o2. As they are clamping down on offers their upgrade is rubbish and I would be paying far more.
However reading through these threads I cant seem to find any other companies to go to.
Vodafone are capping internet usage and three have signal problems. There are a lot of posts about various other problems it seems with everyone. With mobile phones being so popular now -what on earth is happening that the deals are worse.
Are there any decent mobile phone companies left ?

Probably not. I've been with all of the "big 4" over the years (right now stuck with Vodafone for another 11 months...), my personal opinion, for what it's worth, is that O2 is probably the least incompetent of the lot. I don't care if VF offers me a good deal at renewal (unlikely but...), there is no way that I'm staying with them even if I have to pay more with another operator.
Now free from the incompetence of vodafail

They all do depending where you want to use your phone

Lots of smartphone, which cost more, so the chance of a good deal (ie cheap) is less likely.

The cost of the phone has to be covered over the course of the minimum term (they're not really 'free' you know). So the odds of getting one for, say, 10 to 15 quid a months isn't going to happen.

Best option, go sim only and buy the phone you want. You can change whenever you like then.
  • I had been with o2 for many years. But had a spell with Vodafone back in 2009. Vodafone brought a whole new meaning to the word incompetent. I then returned to o2 for another trouble free year. But found o2 resisitive in retaining long term customers.

Recently I changed to Tesco for which I am awaiting the resolution of a complaint, so its unfair to criticise them while an investigation is in progress.

However, I would be suprised if I don't return to o2 within the next two months.

I have used all the big 5, all are hopeless at the best of times....Orange with its UMA & Exec Office (godsends) wins over all others for me & since FREE broadband the improvement to customer services is immense - far from perfect but real good - I called once for the first time in a year and got a knowledgable young lady :) Was it a one off ? probably, but when free broadband was on the go the 3rd party contractor who vets Orange staff was throwing any old chav in call centres.
If I helped or saved you money - Thank me
If I helped you spend some money - spank me
    If I done both - :lipsrseal me:eek:
    :D

Are you happy with the coverage/network?

    If so, stick with them.

You might get a 'brill' deal with Orange (for eg) but if you can't make calls, send texts, receive calls/texts and get internet...what's the point!!!

Completely disagree, Orange are right down on the floor so far as mobile providers are concerned

If you have an unlocked phone and just need a SIM, I recommend giff-gaff. They're an O2-offshoot I think, so they use the O2 network, like how Asda and Tesco phones use Vodafone and O2 (?).

Giff-gaff to giff-gaff calls and texts are free; other texts are 4p and calls 8p/minute.

A £5 goodybag gets you unlimited texts (for a month)
£10, unlimited texts, internet and 100 minutes.
£15, unlimited texts, internet and 300 minutes
£35, unlimited texts, internet and calls.

They’re very much run for their members, with help from their members – you can earn points for signing up friends to giffgaff (£5 credit, cash or charity donation per person), and helping people on their forums.
